Which PSU do I need?

Go to solution Solved by atrash,

You will do fine with a good quality 750w psu. 850w will be the sweet spot if you have the money to spend. Let us know where you plan on buying it and what's your budget and we'll give you some suggestions accordingly.

Also, as mentioned above, that motherboard will not work with the 4770k. Find any Z87 chipset motherboard

I know that i can use calculators but they always gave me inaccurate data. My future specs will be:

CPU
Intel Core i7 4770K

RAM
8 GB DDR3

Motherboard
ASUS P8Z77-V LX

GPUs
GTX 770 (x2)

Tell me if you need to know anything else, I'm sure I forgot something...

You won't be able to use an i7-4770k on a Z77 motherboard. The i7-4770k is a 4th gen processor, while that motherboard supports only 3rd gen processors.

Build: CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k | CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo | Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 | RAM: 8GB G-Skill Ares 1600Mhz CL9 | Storage: 120GB Samsung 840 Evo + WD Blue 1TB 64MB Cache + Seagate Barracuda 2TB 64MB Cache | GPU: MSI GTX 960 | Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer | Power Supply: EVGA 600B Non-Modular |

Corsair AX860(i)?

If you prefer Seasonic, then the X-series 850W.

Edit: There's also the Corsair RM850 which is a bit cheaper, but people around here don't seem to be big fans of the RM series. Mine works fine, though :)

Absolutely love my RM series. Would buy again, especially for a silent build.

RM Series is expensive and unimpressive. Can people stop recommending it without knowing anything about it please.

I am glad it's not just me then  :D  It drives me nuts that people assume it is a quality psu just because it has the Corsair label on it. Don't get me wrong, I love Corsair cases, but their psu's are overpriced, and since they stopped using Seasonic, the quality has gone downhill.

I think their high end quality will remain the same or better with Flextronics. I expect great things from the HXi series, but the price will be very hard to justify.

I feel like Corsair did really well providing competitively priced and excellent power supplies, and built their brand from that. Now they're taking their brand to the bank. Lowering quality to cut costs, and using marketing to increase the price.

To quote Phaedrus2129 over on OCN.

Corsair is a relatively new power supply brand, arriving on the scene only two or three years ago (they were and are a popular memory brand prior to that). Their astonishing rise in popularity in such a short time is due to the profusion of high-quality power supplies they deliver, the inclusion of their PSUs on many popular review sites, word of mouth, and keeping at least twenty of their PSUs in sight at all times in every Fry's and Microcenter in the US. They've earned a reputation as being reliable and high-quality, with a dedicated fanbase whose automatic recommendation for any power supply is, "Get a Corsair, they're the best."

http://www.overclock.net/t/654983/on-corsair-psus ~ A little old, but a very nice resource.

"Get a Corsair, they're the best."

Where have I heard that before?

*reads any "what power supply should I get" thread*

Ah, that's where.

I just said I liked. No I haven't gone all fake detective and opened it up and pretended I knew what I was doing. I bought it in the sale, it's never failed me nor let me down. It's efficient, modular and quiet. That's all I want from my PSU.

Thank you so much!!! I would have bought an i7-4770k with no thought otherwise. You just saved me an utter annoyance. Thanks again.

And thanks to everyone else for their inputs.

Since the i7 wont work on the Z77 can someone recommend another motherboard?

And since some people say that a 750W PSU is enough, I've a Corsair TX 750. Will that do?

My max budget is around 300 USD (2000 Swedish Crowns) and I am planning to buy it on amazon (because of cheapness :)   ) or a swedish site called komplett.se or webhallen.com (also a swedish site)

Thanks to anyone willing to help me :D

The efficiency doesn't matter when considering the Wattage the OP will need.

I think SLI'd 770's and an overclocked 4770k could be done on 650W. 770's use ~230W, leaving 190W for the CPU and the rest.

I was narrowing down the choice for him :3

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

$300 is really a lot to be spend on just a psu tbh.. :P I wholeheartedly recommend this psu. EVGA Supernova 750G2 .

And since some people say that a 750W PSU is enough, I've a Corsair TX 750. Will that do?

That TX 750 is also a good psu too. It might be just an 80+ Bronze rated, but it will definitely work with the sli build. There's not much difference in terms of electricity bill saved going from a bronze to a gold unit unless you'll be using the pc for 24/7. If you already have that psu, then why not just use that. ;)

But the one I recommended above is definitely quieter (since you are doing sli, those graphics cards will probably be the loudest components in the pc anyway) and is fully modular,if you feel like pimpin out your pc with custom sleeved cables.

If you are not in a rush then wait for the devils canyon cpu. The i7 version is i7 4790K and you want a Z97 board to go with it.

And one last thing, I've seen I've mad some stupid mistakes so I want to be safe. Do those  GTX 770 fit in my Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl. And if you want to, give me some advice on which graphics card manufacturer I should choose. Leaning towards MSI right now. Thanks again people :D
