When you buy a game, does it give you a steam key or is it done another way?

yes,

 

it shows you the key as soon as you make your purchase, and they also send you and email with the key/instructions

 

 

its a really cool website that i've purchased many games through them

 

for some older games, you have to use their capsule program to install games, but for the most part its simply a steam key
