RX9070XT Driver Timeouts

Go to solution Solved by Potatoes__,

This might be unrelated but I had driver timeouts crashing some of my games from time to time, but I am running 9070xt on Linux. After one of the latest driver updates those either disappeared completely or are far less common than before because I had none in the past few weeks. So maybe something gone wrong in the windows drivers too? I've seen an awful lot of similar thread recently.

Alternatively I'd also try undervolting and maybe underclocking the card a lil bit, maybe it's boosting a bit too much and can't handle the clocks.

I'm playing Space Marine 2 a game I enjoy. I need help trying to identify and fix this issue. I already went through tuning, drivers, even a clean Windows install and this doesn't work.

Normally I can only play the game starting at low setting with just the textures set higher. Set at medium or higher a driver timeout in less than a minute. Now I tried stress testing each part through OCCT and every part passed individually but together on combine a driver timeout will happen. I delayed the Tdr by 10 and driver timeouts still happen.

I tried using Radeon Developer Tool Suits and used profiler to grab a frame, all it could tell me was that Space Marine 2 was CPU bound and then I used crash analysis on the developer panel however everytime I run it it cuts my fps in half to like 50ish from 90ish fps on Ultra settings but the game is stable and without it the fps is normal but it timesout and closes.

I also noticed while crash analysis is on my gpu util is at 100 and cpu util goes down, so I imagine that the crash analysis is lowering something. When the game is unstable gpu util drops and cpu util may rise or stay the same.

I would suspect it could be a cpu bottleneck but when the game crashed it was at 65%util and the gpu was at 83util%

Last GPU I had was the GTX1080 and that thing never gave me problems and all I had to do was update drivers so this is all new to me.

Reinstall a new driver first. You may have done that but you didn’t state it in your message, so I would just uninstall and reinstall the driver using adrenalin

check event viewer for what exactly caused the crash.

Sorry when I said I went through tuning, drivers, even a clean Windows install I also meant that I reinstalled drivers. Even tried using drivers with and without adrenalin.

Unfortunately event viewer doesn't pick anything up I am looking in Windows Logs and clicking on System. Could it be somewhere else?-

Click on Event Viewer (Local) which gives a nice summary.

Check for anything in Crit, Err, or Warn after you get the timeout

So it appears that this card isn't stable in default presets or above I set it to efficiency and it is stable. Which is annoying because I'm pretty sure that is one of the very first thing's I've done.

A clue should of been Radeon detective lowering my fps but making the game stable at ultra everything. The gpu handles other games at default or even overclocked presets but for this game it does not.

Are you able to RMA it? sounds a bit defective... Your card should be able to run under load on its default settings without crashing

I'll definitely look into it thank you. When looking for help be it on AMD or Space Marine 2 forums there seems to be a lot of driver issues so it was difficult to tell if it was the game, the drivers, or what but there are also people that have the same kit I do with no problems.

Seeing that the crash is reproducible when the presets is higher than efficiency it does seem like that's the smoking gun which may build the case its the card itself.

There are a few issues that can be causing this. AMD had stated that some of their newer drivers were unstable. Microsoft had said some of Windows updates were causing a AMD GPU crash. I had looked at Event Viewer and saw that AMD crash defender service caused my GPU to crash. In some cases I suspect Windows Security will end up blocking AMD drivers. In that will lead to the GPU crash. AMD has released updated drivers and they had said that should clear up the crashing. Windows has also released updates to address the crash issue. But if Windows Security detects something out of place with the drivers functionality. It might block it and cause a crash. Microsoft has been pushing out updates too soon. Their updates are not tested enough.
