Hello,
I figured out, how to make command work, but each time it does just perform full backup . i have correct snapshots created by script, what work fine with unencrypted datasets:

this command perform each time full backup:
 

zfs send -R 'Pool1/Dataset1/subdataset1@auto-backup-20260126-225523' | zfs receive -d 'pool2/dataset2/subdataset1'

 

this command perform first time full backup, then fails:

INFO: Running: zfs send -w -R 'Pool1/Dataset1/subdataset1@auto-backup-20260126-225523' | zfs receive -F -d 'pool2/dataset2/subdataset1'
cannot receive new filesystem stream: destination has snapshots
must destroy them to overwrite it

Maybe, there is any other ways to do make it work? With gui will be great 😞

I'm not certain what your desired outcome is, so here's some observations/suggestions...

 

I suspect that the issue may lie with the -d flag. Is it your intention to invoke the "discard first token of source path and append to destination" function of ZFS receive? (I ask because your paths are otherwise the same in different pools and my experience/preference would be to have the dataset backed up at that same location on a different dataset.)

I also suspect (without testing this myself) that that flag may be inadvertently interacting with the -F flag.

 

Alternative option: are you looking for the -i incremental backup function?

and for other (encrypted) side for zfs receive? i still fail to create a working command 😞

Explain what you're trying to do. I can't really help because I don't know what you're expecting the command to do.

 

I will say that zfs send -i requires two snapshots to function (it will send only the differences between the two of them).

I have three datasets to backup incrementally:

  • one unencrypted source to encrypted destination (keep destination key)
  • one encrypted source to encrypted destination (keep destination key)
  • one encrypted source to encrypted destination (keep source key)
