Do riser cables/adapters reduce performance?

If I can, I'd like to use a riser with one of my graphics cards to save me having to Dremel its custom/kludged heat-sink but I'm worried that using a riser might reduce the card's performance.

 

Should I expect a reduction of performance with a riser?
