Hey guys. i'm new in building PC. While I was looking for parts and stuffs, I came across a problem of whether I should get a PC case with vertical or horizontal orientation of micro ATX mother board. I'm hearing that vertical can cause some slight bend or distortion on the board specially if it is loaded with big graphics card or SLI (Is this even true? needs confirmation). While for horizontal orientation, some cases doesn't have holes for the platform and makes cooling for CPU quite difficult to change ot upgrade (must take off the whole mother board? Im not sure). Anyway, what is your guys opinion? Are these kinda true or what? What kind of case would you guys prefer? Thanks guys

And by the way here is my components so far:

My other concern about the case is, If I can have a radiator bigger than 120mm at the top (specifically on top) of the case then I might change the Corsair H80i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler to an H100i one (that's why I need a hole behind the CPU socket platform on the case). Thank you guys ^_^ . And feel free to give comments about my other components too ^_^ .

I'm pretty sure horizontal mobo cases are way way WAAAY more common.

Well... either ways is fine to be honest. Most of the case is vertical and there will be no bending whatsoever because in the graphic card you have the little hole near the port to screw it in the case itself so the mobo dont have to support the full weight of the GPU. Horizontal case is... rare I suppose? In fact the only one I can think of now is Bitfenix Prodigy which support both style. And ppl can goes with horizontal if they need a bit more space for the H100i radiator. I think this is the picture of the prodigy M and as you can see it can fit a H100i.

My suggestion? Dont choose such a small case unless you absolutely need one. Better go with a Corsair 300R Windowed so you have window panel + the case still pretty small but big enough for good airflow and you can install anything you want on it.

Also about your build itself, I'd suggest choosing a different monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-ve248h for bigger screen + I trust ASUS more, SSD to Samsung EVO 120GB for the same reason, and PSU to a Corsair CX 600W Semi modular because you dont need 750W for a single GPU build. 750W should be use for a 2 ways SLI computer (or do you plan to goes 2 ways SLI later on?).

Thank you for comments. Yes I do plan to have SLI in the future. For the parts, yes ill take them but I'm trying to keep the budget under around $1700. However, the SSDs needs to be high quality so Ill replace my SSD though and the Power Supply. Concerning the orientation, i might just go for vertical placement since I found a really good case though (NZXT Phantom 410). Thanks again for comments guys ^_^

Most enthusiast cases for mATX and ATX size motherboards mount the board vertically. Unless one is buying a super cheap motherboard distortion is unlikely. GPU as with other expansion cards have a bracket at right angles to the motherboard that is screwed into the back of the case. This tends to relieve stress on the socket that might otherwise occur.

Air flow patterns differ depending on the orientation of the motherboard but neither offers inherently better or worse cooling. Smaller cases do make good cooling more difficult to achieve in SLI setups.

Save a few dollars and get better/faster memory, A-Data XPG V1.0.

The psu is far too large for the build. Also, if you are considering an mATX case like the Prodigy, pick the case first. You will than be able to make sure that the psu will fit in the case properly. Same is true for the cpu cooler.

You do not necessarily need an open space in the motherboard tray behind the cpu socket. On can simply mount the cooler on the motherboard before installing the board in the case.
