So towards the beginning of the year my trusty old pc died, came as a shock but it was a piece of crap and it wouldn't run windows 11 so I decided to get something a bit newer. After looking for a while I went with a company advertising decent systems but built from used parts, as I didn't want to spend loads and I'd get something a lot newer than what I had I went with it, this system has performed reasonably well (bar some initial problems with the company changing the spec due to lack of parts etc). Due to unforeseen health problems I've now decided to get into gaming and also VR and this system is laughably under powered for what I need, I mainly use DCS but I recently bought Alien Rogue Incursion off steam (as it was VR and.. I'd just bought an Oculus 3, imagine my shock when I realised that my crappy current setup wasn't remotely up to the task of running it..

I'm now trying to decide the best course of action as my funds are more than a little limited, after running just DCS tonight (without Vr) and checking the performance figures umm, it's maxing out my processor and my graphics card. I'm presuming that rebuilding using 'some' of my existing parts is workable but I know I'll need a new motherboard to go with the i7 processor I'll need, I'll also need a much better graphics card. So, current system is...

i5 9500T 2.2Ghz

Asrock H310CM-1B Motherboard

Radeon Rx580

16 gig DDR4

2 Tb HD (as a second drive)

1 Tb SSd

Hoping to upgrade to:

Asus Prime B660 -  PLUS D4 Motherboard

i7 12700

16-32gig DDR4

2 x 2Tb SSD

Not sure if my Power supply is sufficient for what the new set up will need, I'm again looking for used parts (bar the SSD's) to keep costs down. I've owned plenty of pc's but never built one before, I have swapped memory, disc drives, graphics cards etc.. Any help would be appreciated guys.

Mmm, if funds are limited getting 2x2TB SSD will seriously dent the budget !

Dunno if you really need 32GB, nor what you're doing on the PC except DCS,  but anyway my advice would be to go DDR5, and rather some mid range Ryzen 7700 or such, better gaming chips than a 12700 (unless you do a lot of non gaming needing a lot of cores)

The first thing you need to know for a new computer is: don't buy intel. Period. So right off the the bat, forget about the 12700.

The safest recommendation would be a Ryzen 7700 with a B650 board. You'll need new RAM, but it will be worth it in the long run, and it should make ot easier to sell the old platform if you include the memory. Alternatively, you can probably find a 5800x3d / 5700x3d for even cheaper, though you'll be left with no upgrade paths.

As for the gpu, we need to hold on a suggestion until you figure out your current PSU.
