I have a 5800X3D, 6800XT, P3 Plus, and AX210 in a B550 Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard. My PCIe speed on the graphics card is x8 4.0 according to gpu-z. I've gone through some bios updates, settings and even reset my entire computer and it won't go to x16.

I have another PC with the same motherboard but with a 5600, AX200 and 6750XT and it runs at x16.

Am I missing something? Is someone able to help me?

Have you installed the SSDs in same slots on both motherboards?

yes, both on the topmost 4.0 slot.

Alright. In theory you can have dust or what not block a few of the pins, causing the card to run in x8. Tried reseating, checking for dust etc?

not yet, its a very very cramped build. Might that be the only issue?

Well, if you have another build with the exact same setup (used PCIE devices), then it should all be the same right? But it is not. And LTT even showed in a few videos how putting tape on PCIE fingers can lower from x16 to x8 (or was it x8 to x4? don't matter though). That's why I thought of maybe a reseat should be tried. You already said you updated BIOS and drivers etc, so that is not the fix.

chatGPT (lol) told me the 5800X3D handles PCIe differenly than other CPUs, I don't know if there's any truth to that.

Maybe compare PCIE settings in both BIOS's actually?

Ops, so sorry, for whatever reason I saw it as the same CPU 😮 My bad. Well, that's interesting. That could be the "issue".

on the other one, everything ia AUTO and it just works. I played with PCIe settings and couldne't get it to work.

Alright.

Well, I guess I would try and move the SSD to lower slot, to make it run through chipset instead of CPU lanes. See if that does the trick.

And also, you have tried starting the render test in GPU-Z, to make sure your GPU isn't just idling at x8?

I'll be running the 4.0 SSD in 3.0 as a trade off. But yeah worth the try.

Just did, no change.

Nvm the edit, wrote wrong info.

Yes, give it a try in lower slot, see if it fixes GPU PCIE x16

I'm looking at the manual for your motherboard. It does not say it has 4.0 PCIE though?

image.png.7883e3742c04f214a4eff873451dc159.png
"2 x PCI Express 3.0 x1 Slots"

Hm well now I'm confused. On the other PC I just checked, GPU is at PCIe x16 4 and SSD is at PCIe 4.0 x4.

Mine says GPU is PCIe x8 4 and SSD is at PCIe 4.0 x4.

MD Ryzen series CPUs (Vermeer and Matisse)
- 2 x PCI Express x16 Slots (PCIE1: Gen4x16 mode; PCIE3: Gen3 x4 mode)

Now I'm really confused.

You are not confused. If you continue to the next page in the manual, there's a storage section, which states 4.0 for SSDs. Not the greatest manual. Please see that I edited my comment.

There's no truth to that. The IO die that handles PCIe for the 5800X3D is the same as on standard Vermeer 5000 series chips. The only difference between the X3D comes in the Core Complex Die (CCD) where the V-Cache module is installed.

I'm not seeing anything in the manual for the motherboard about the PCIe lanes for the primary slot varying with the amount of expansion cards installed. In some boards, installing a card in the second x16 slot will cut the lanes to the primary slot in half, but the manual doesn't say anything about this happening.

Have you tried removing the card, blowing any dust/debris out of the slot, and cleaning the contacts on the card with some alcohol? It could be that a pin isn't working.
