Hi everyone. New here but friend to the channel.

PC specs are as follows

ASUS ROG MAXIMUS FORMULA X

2X 16GB GB KIT corsair vengeance DDR4

INTEL i7 9700K

Thermaltake 360mm aio cooler

Question is:

I had a 2070 auros super gpu and that got fried (somehow). I have sent it in for repairs but they were unable to fix it.

The company offered multiple (6) cards (all higher) as replacement cards as a courtesy to continue using my computer, but each card had its own issues.

I got to the point where i took my computer box to the company and asked them to test various cards to test which card will actually work in my system, to no avail 😞

They sent the computer back to me saying that my system is too old and will not be able to run any other card than a 30 series card and im limited because of my chipset.

I would like to know if this is a acceptable reason or if I should dig deep and actually get a new 40 series card in the hopes that it might just be their stock cards that are problably faulty to begin with?

Any advice will be must appreciated!

Thanks ahead.

I have heard of 50 series cards not working in (some?) 8-10th gen boards, so I could buy that. 40 series, no, that's not true. You can easily google people running e.g. 4070, 4090 in that exact board.

RTX 4000 GPU's should run with your motherboard and CPU 🙂

I ran my RTX 4080 on my ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F GAMING - Intel 9900k for a few months before upgrading my platform, it worked without any issues.

Be aware that you will be CPU limited in modern games if you get a higher GPU.

So what you are saying is that the shop only tested busted cards on my system and that is why i have not had any luck with the various cards?

I am aware of the bottle neck, I just dont have the cash flow at the moment to actually bite down and get a new card.

I couldn't say 100% that they were all broken, but I can say 100% that RTX 40 series and Radeon 6000/7000/9000 cards DO work in 8th/9th gen boards.

There can be other complications with changing from old to new, e.g. BIOS version, CSM, display cables/monitor and riser issues.

But why exactly?

If you're referring to me, I've seen it mentioned elsewhere and there's a few threads I've seen personally where they didn't work. I don't know why.

It could be fixable with a BIOS update, but most of these boards are 5+ years old and barely supported anymore.

I was scratching my head thinking it was rebar or something....
News to me I suppose...
Thanks.
