WIFI keeps disconnecting

Go to solution Solved by AustinProH,

Which Wifi band is your gl.inet connected to? 2.4GHz or 5GHz from your host wifi? It could be an issue with your host WiFi router not being compatible with the gl.inet wifi standards 802.11n, 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11ac

I'm staying at a new house and I connected everything to the new Wi-Fi just fine. However, my PC doesn't have Wi-Fi on the motherboard, so I use a small GL.iNet travel router. It normally connects to Wi-Fi without issue, but for some reason, as soon as it connects and I launch a game or run a Wi-Fi test, it just disconnects. I don't know what the problem is, but any help is very much appreciated

p.s. here is the router on amazon www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-SFT1200-Secure-Travel-Router/dp/B09N72FMH5/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2J4KMLMJLV0P2&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ouYG_5Umz8hd70EhoqyH4z5R80tosVXkaw50Wju8pS0cQpNGJix49er9ETibF-xY6jsMU_0L8kzukiOFbc9fvDJya_GAJrnyMbbZwiGcmpUdOU8a5vnaa6Cymthua_o8N0eicVxj0CjdtT3vGqcM7Elxd6djJTVDWuwHkdyiDdJp2_4ejP6H7qZ_EyyFtD3YFMMCHp80_QqWedKdhnFV4ksAPX-9VtJ5p0p4BBFcT7s.s5rxOoPxfqjM8kqPvoRLFjSSfdF0sHUBEXME2LnCys8&dib_tag=se&keywords=gl-sft1200&qid=1753455341&sprefix=gl-sft1200%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

If you run a speedtest, does the router stay connected ?

Do you have many wifi devices in your house ?

Are the neighbors close enough so you receive their wifi signals ?

Does that travel router connects correctly to another wifi (while out of the home for example). ?

Did you try shutting down all wifi devices except the wifi, your computer and the travel router ?

Good luck !

Assuming your router firmware is up to date and is being supplied sufficient power, it might be wi-fi interreference in the house, is the signal strength weak? Are you able to access websites fine? Do other devices connect and can access the internet fine?

What setting do you have the GL.inet router running on? Is it set as a repeater or client? Though unlikely incorrect clock time on the GL.inet router can sometimes cause connectivity issues as well, make sure it's set to the correct time zone and time.

See if you can change wi-fi channels to a better one that's less congested, download a wi-fi analyzer app on your phone and have it look to see which bands are most available.

Use your phone as a hotspot to test the GL.inet router and the home wi-fi router to see which is causing the drop outs?

If the gl.inet disconnects during the speedtest, I believe that the travel router has some stability issues.

Can you try using an Ethernet cable between your computer and wifi router ?
