Network Layout (is vs. planned) knowledge needed

Hi There,

wasn´t in the game for quite a time. So i´m not up to date. Just realised earlier this year that my network is (or was) really outdated with all 10/100 connections. So i did an update parially.

Here is my Layout at the moment (crappy design by MS Excel 😄 )

As i plan to use the NAS Server not only for Plex but also as my general Fileserver i asked my self if another upgrade to 2.5G could be worth it? First i thought about just the office part but it could also be:

So, the whole Network would be capable of the higher speed. But in reality it would just be the PC and the NAS. I´m reencoding videos on the server right now (meaning without moving it from server to pc and vice versa) that works good and i´m wondering if 2.5G could speed that up? I dont think the living room equipement wouldnt profite at all, as i dont think any of them would be capaple.

Also i´m thinking of storing my LR Library to the NAS. Same Question?

I'm no expert in setting up a network like this but I always try to avoid using the hardware my ISP provides for anything but providing internet access to my local network via ethernet, I'll disable the wifi and just connect my own router or switch with ethernet which looks like your new solution. I guess my main question would be is any of your devices getting close to using 1Gbit currently for any tasks mainly your PC or your NAS if so then an upgrade will help, if your nas isn't capable of moving 1gbit then changing the network wont affect much

Good point. tested the connection with LAN Speed test and:

No, i would say. I guess the Harddisks are the limiting factor here.

Interestingly a significant difference between my diy Truenas and the Synology Diskstation:
