Hello, I am looking for a Ubuntu based distro (preferably) that opens apps instantly after opening them, this is required for my productivity and my job. I have tried loads of distros and it takes 2-3 seconds maybe more to open an app.

Thank you for your advice and if you need any more info post a reply.

well this is not a distro based issue, you need a faster CPU that poor ryzen 3 is weak...like really weak... 2 mere cores and 4 threads, 3.5GHz max boost and the cache per core is actually REALLY LOW

here you can find all the ubuntu based distros in existance and check if they are mantained or not:
https://distrowatch.com/search.php?basedon=Ubuntu

but you probably need something like puppy linux or lubuntu

Maybe you just need a faster computer.

You haven't told us what applications, or your spec, or what distros you've had this "trouble" with - therefore we have absolutely nothing to go on.

This largely depends on the specific app and your system's hardware, also...

highly doubt your productivity is significantly impacted by apps opening in 2-3 seconds rather than 0. It might be a little annoying but generally you're going to spend a lot more time using programs rather than opening them.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

look for distribution, that don't use snap or other same tech for your apps, uncheck all update checking. Also you can preload your apps before they you start use.

Ubuntu 24.04, i7, NVMe SSD:

- LibreOffice, <1s

- Firefox, <1s,

- ...

Thank you for this insight and some ways to help minimise the time.

Not gonna lie, this is an example of genuinely having excessive and pointless personal requirements for your computing experience. It's like the PC gamers who get mad when their frame rate drops under 240 fps for a few seconds.

What the hell kind of workflow do you have where you have to be constantly opening programs? Why not just leave them open? Do the programs themselves have performance issues while they are running?

I can't imagine a scenario where it makes sense to upgrade from your (still fairly modern) PC just in order to get programs to open slightly faster.

"TV Gaming" PC: Ryzen 5 5600 :: 32GB DDR4-3200 :: RTX 2070 Super :: 500GB PCIe 3.0 SSD :: 1.5TB of SATA SSDs :: Windows 11

"Desk Gaming" PC: i5-4690K :: 16GB DDR3-1600 :: RX 560D 4GB :: 500GB SATA SSD :: Linux Mint 22

Office PC: Dell Pro 14 :: Ultra 7 268V :: 32GB DDR5-8533 :: 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe :: 6TB HDD :: Windows 11

Laptop: Dell Latitude 15.6" :: i5-4200U :: 8GB DDR3-1600 :: 500GB SATA SSD :: Linux Mint 22

Primary NAS: i5-7500 :: 16GB DDR4-2133 :: 250GB SSD :: 8TB HDD :: TrueNAS Scale 24.10

Web Server/Backup NAS: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B :: 2GB RAM :: 64GB microSD card :: 8TB HDD :: Raspberry Pi OS

Other tech stuff: iPad Pro M4 13" :: Samsung Galaxy A15 4GB :: 2022 Kindle Fire HD 7 :: PS4 Slim w/ 1TB SSD :: OG Nintendo Switch

That part was more a response to whispous saying "you might just need a faster computer" than it was to you tbh.

FWIW I've tested quite a few "light" distros on my laptop (which is weaker than yours, i5-4200U with 8GB of DDR3) and none of them are meaningfully faster than Mint XFCE when it comes to basic stuff like booting up or opening LibreOffice (which only takes a few seconds, it's hardly a problem.)
