Budget:

  • (900€ + 400€ Old laptop sale)

Country:

  • Portugal

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • General Gaming for now, I play mostly Battlefield V, PUBG, Counter Strike. I am a software developer, but I do most of my work on a laptop with Linux and another one with MacOs

Other details:

  • Here I will share some details of the computer
    • Case - ATX Aerocool P500C ARGB tempered glass in black
    • Motherboard - Asus PRIME B840M-A Wifi
    • PSU - Montech Century 650W 80 Plus Gold
    • CPU - AMD Ryzen 7700x (8 Core 4.6GHz-5.4GHz) 40MB
    • RAM - Team Group 2x 16GB CL30 6000MHz
    • CPU Cooler - Jonsbo CR-2000GT ARGB
    • GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 5070 GAMING TRIO OC 12GB GDDR7 DLS

  • My main goals with this build:
    • I always loved the look of gaming computer, from watching youtube videos, it wasn't until I walked into a computer shop, and saw an amazing custom water cooled build that sparked that joy in me. My main focus was to have something pretty to look at, similar feeling looking into a fish aquarium. I also wanted decent performance
    • Previously I owned a Asus TUF Dash F15, 16gb RAM, rtx 3050 with 4gb. It was an amazing laptop to go trough university, no problems. I sold this laptop to help budget this build
    • I do most of my professional work in a Lenovo Thinkpad with Linux Ubuntu OS. I love Linux maybe someday I can make the switch when more games become more compatible. I also own a macbook, were I do some work, it is great because of the battery life.

Thank you ! Open to suggestions, opinions or questions 🙂

Thank you for the heads up. This is still very much a work in progress, it just looks pretty and plays games (to my eyes at least). I am looking maybe into making it in a bit a server machine, give it a bit of lab sorta of use, using RDP to use it when I am out of the country on my Mac. Do you have any suggestions?

How have you found the GPU? I’ve been looking at purchasing the same one, thank you

I have found it to be more than plenty for what I play. I play at 1440p, games like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, Battlefield, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 4 etc... (locked at display Hz 144fps, max settings). I never used DLSS. For me, it is the low power draw—I can use a 650W PSU. So far, it is overkill for everything and has had 0 issues. To give more in depth, before buying I was considering the 5060 Ti, a second-hand 3080, and this OC 5070. I think I made the best choice for my requirements.

The only bad aspect I would mention is that I have not found how to control the RGB on the GPU. I like to keep my computer with the LEDs off at night, and I have a dark case with the GPU glowing inside. It heats up the case and the glass quite a bit, but the internal temps are always fine.

So to sum it up for me:

Lower power consumption (lower electric bill :D!)

Good-looking GPU (maybe vertical mounting would be better), and in my country we say, "the eyes are the first buyer," and for me aesthetics here was a key factor

More than powerful for what I play (old competitive games)

Can play the latest games and do more if I want to, so future-proof
