i know this is a weird question but do anybody know where the system files that is used for windows to be able to sleep is located.

a bit of explaining is probably in order.

my pc has begone to revert my sleep setting from never to 2 hours multiple times a day and nothing ive tried yet has worked to stop it from happening

even the windows powertools awake tool does not help.

so ive come to the weird possible solution to take the main sleep file and corrupting it to garbage data since ive used that method before to stop other windows processes from working but come to a roadblock

i have no idea what that file is called where it would be located or even if it exist as a stand alone file that are not responsible for anything else, and havent been able to google fu the answer

i hope someone has a way to help me atleast in a direction that will solve my problem

(here is my preferred and current settings)

Sleep doesn't create/need a file, since the machine is still (semi-)on, just in a low power state. The RAM is still powered.

I assume you mean hibernation, where the system writes RAM contents into hiberfil.sys, usually directly in the root of C:\

i mean where is the code that windows use to know how to even put itself to sleep.

windows cant do anything without access to the code that tellls it what to do.

we can take one of the things i did mess with, you know that getting started window that sometimes pops up after restarting from a big update or reinstall of windows. it has a file in system32, if you delete or corrupt it it wont be able to make that popup anymore, its antivirus and firewall can be disabled the same way.

thats the kind of thing im looking for

Ok, so you're looking for the binary that contains the sleep logic. I don't know, but probably some DLL file in system32, but could also be part of its kernel. Messing with it sounds like a good way to brick your Windows install.

i also think its some dll file.

and i cant agree more that its not the best idea messing with it, and would never recommend others doing it.

not only will deleting a wrong file have a good chance og bricking the os, even if i delete the right file there is a good chance it will just crash instead of going to sleep, even if it does what i want it still might still have some anoyíng side effects.

im in the lucky situation that i dont have any non recoverable files on my pc, im the only user and at worst it will cost my a full days work to get my pc back to the state it is in now.

but i absolutely refuse the idea thats i should change to fit my os and not the other way around, and it infuriate me to no end when my pc refuse to comply with my commands. if i tell it to delete a file i would rather have to reformat my pc than let my pc act like its the boss over me. warning me is fine but should just do as its told and let me deal with the aftermath

i do know its kinda childish and irational. but i have also learned a great deal  from making the mistakes and 10 hours of tinkering helps me to never forget to not do that again. its also just kinda a fun challenge to find a way to force its hand even though its also frustrating

If the setting is changing without you changing it, something is doing it. Likely something else you installed. Try to identify that. More obvious suspects will be anything that does system level adjustments or optimisations.

I'm sure there is/was a free tool that tracks system changes, but I forget what it is called. If you can find that software then you can use it to see what is making the change.

about that i have a little more information.

at first when it startet windows was trying to make for set up a pin, wich has happened before

but after setting up a pin it usually stopped even after deleting the pin again wich wasnt the case this time even while keeping my pin, so my main suspect is a windows update of some sort. the only thing that the only new software that i would expect would do that would be cheat engine, but the only thing i use it for it speeding up some old flash games when they start dipping in framerate idle games and that kind of continiusly degrating experience games.

i dont have experience working with those tools you were talking about at all so im not even sure where to begin with finding something that will both work and that i can work with, i would expect having it check changes to settings for half a day would give my weeks of fincombing absolute drivel with the answer hidden among it
