Budget (including currency): $4000-$4500 (AUD)

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Primarily gaming, like Rust, CS2 and R6. Also, would like it to be able to run newer games in 1440p or 4k.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have an old pre-built, but it is starting to bottleneck, especially the CPU, also it has bad airflow and runs hot. I am not planning to reuse any parts from it, just sell it and buy a whole new PC.

Suggestions for a 4k or 1440p, high refresh rate monitor would be appreciated (not part of the budget). I currently have two 24-inch Asus Predator 144Hz monitors, so hoping to upgrade, probably to 27-inch, so it still fits on my desk.

I am also considering just purchasing a pre-built from Aftershock but not sure if they are any good. https://aftershockpc.com.au/products/flow-lvl-9-pro-r7-7800x3d-rtx-5081 or https://aftershockpc.com.au/products/nimbus-lvl-9-pro-r7-7800x3d-rtx-5080-p2

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Not terrible honestly, the value of parts might not be 4400AUD exactly because of the "cheaper" parts used on some, still good enough as far as everything goes.

(Oh I see @Why_Me's 4400AUD list also includes 500AUD monitor)

I would look for a board that includes M.2 heat shields/heatsinks for the SSD.

Technically, you don't need heat-spreaders/heatsinks

G50 needs approx 50 seconds of consistent usage just to start thermal throttling, before throttling it runs at ~4GB/s, which means by the time it starts thermal throttling from sequential workload, that workload will be most likely done, because in 50 seconds you already read/wrote 200GB worth of data:

The OP lives in Australia where it gets hot not to mention he has a $4500 AUD budget which means a board with M.2 heatsinks.

I doubt even if ambient temp is as crazy as for example +10C, that it will affect M.2's temp too much.

Even if your room is for some reason or another, scorching hot 40C, the thermal throttling point of average temp in M.2 is still almost double that amount.

But sure, since the budget allows it, an MSI or ASRock or whatever other board with M.2 heatsink is probably decent idea.

I included a board with M.2 heatsinks, SSD with DRAM cache, RTX 5080 along with a 260Hz Asus monitor and still came under budget. If you can't include a decent board with a $4500 AUD budget then you're doing something wrong.

The only reason I included that monitor was due to the fact I was trying to jack up the price on that build because I didn't want the OP to think I was recommending cheap sh*tty components.

Lol, like how MS included a flight sim in a version of Excel because people were (apocryphally) suspicious of how small the program was

What's wrong with the Gigabyte board? It really only is missing the M.2 shield, otherwise it has all the features you would typically ask for

Price isn't the only indicator of quality.
