Hi, I recently i won a brand spanking new intel 13400f for free in a prize pool at my local PC hardware store, I heard intel 13th and 14th gen cpus have problems. Now it's a clear upgrade over my ryzen 3000 series cpu. And I wanted to ask if it's worth using

The 13400f is a massive upgrade over your Ryzen 3000 and is definitely worth using 🙂

Just update to the latest BIOS and you are safe.  Its a no brainer if you want more CPU power.

The problem is CPU degradation but its fixed on later BIOS versions 🙂

Oh, thank you, but I'd like to ask how exactly would the bios update fix the degradation, and I'd the b760 prime plus from asus would be a great fit, I found it on sale at 120 dollars and I find it's layout attractive for the kind of ssds and ports I need

Intel 13th and 14th gen CPUs were found to be susceptible to degradation due to voltage fluctuations, particularly during idle or light usage.

So updating the BIOS to later versions look to fix this issue with lower voltages etc 🙂

The b760 prime plus is great for the 13400f!

Not all 13th and 14th gens are affected by the degradation.

According to Intel all i3 and non-K i5 are unaffected. The i5 13400F is actually made with the Alder lake, 12th gen and rebranded as 13th gen more or less.

Here's an article I found some time ago mentioning laptop cpus and the i3 and non-K i5 desktop cpus. If you scroll down the article.

I myself have an i5 13400
