Eastern Nebraska storm...

JDS

As I'm sure you can gather from the title, I live on the eastern side of Nebraska, about 30 miles west of Omaha.  There has been talk for the last few days that a massive storm is going to come rolling through, and they were right.  The storm measured up to 400 miles wide at one point, which is basically the length of the entire state.  I have seen countless storm-chasers, and there was actually some meteorologists from Europe here to study tornadoes, and the rare derecho, which is basically just a giant windstorm.  Anyway, there are some pretty awesome/terrible pictures of damage and the actual storm I thought maybe some of you would like to see.  I apologize ahead of time if the pictures are poor, I borrowed most from a friend, and the storm is still going on, so I'm sure there will be more...

I saved this for last, because look at it.  Not only is that impressively dark, but that picture was taken at NOON!

Let me know if you guys would like to see more.

Wow that's crazy! Here in the Netherlands we have never had anything this caliber, I am kind of happy that I never have to go through this kind of weather.

Maybe do you know: why build a lot the people in the US their houses out of wood while concrete or anything like that is much more robust and will live thru storms and other extreme weather conditions? I mean ofcourse wood is cheaper but when building out of concrete you don't need to build your house all up again after every storm season, Right?

This doesn't happen often.  Probably not this bad in the last 20+ years.
