Quick Start Guide - Einstein@home

Einstein@home goal is to use your computers "idle" time to search for weak astrophysical signals from spinning neutron starts. Utilizing data from the LIGO gravitation-wave detectors, MeerKAT radio telescope and fermi gamma-ray satellite. Also using archival data from the Arecibo radio telescope (RIP). This project is able to utilize both CPU and GPU to achieve it's objective.

For the 2025 BOINC Pentathlon Einstein@home is the Steeplechase event which is running for 7 days, May 12-19th.

***The Steeplechase is different from other events, there will be 2 Bonus days where points are worth an additional 20-50%!

This gives bunkering points, if able, a huge advantage when released for those two days. It's recommended to use GPUs for this project since they are able to process larger and higher point tasks for the event.

Account Setup

 1) If you have not already, download and install the BOINC manager here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php or in a Debian/Ubuntu based Linux system run sudo apt install boinc

2)If adding project from the BOINC Manager next click on Tools --> Add Project...

At this point I recommend hitting Suspend and No New Tasks if you want to change what type of tasks you wish to work.

6) Now to visit https://einsteinathome.org/ for some configuration, login into the email you provided when creating the account.

7) You'll click on the View Account tab and come to this screen. From there click on Preferences

8) We are now adjusting your preferences to permit exporting your stats to other websites like BAM! by going to

Preferences --> Privacy --> Clicking Yes on Do you consent to exporting your data to BOINC statistics aggregation websites?:

Now you should be sharing to BAM for Stats/points collection

9) Now to project settings, now click on the Project tab, This is where you can enable/disable your CPU/GPUs and adjust what tasks you'll receive. For example below I am gunning mostly GPU tasks so for the 2025 BOINC Pentathlon I am running the current Applications

*If running something like a Raspberry Pi, you'll need to check [BRP4]

10)Almost forgot about joinng LinusTechTips_Team!!! Go to the following tabs Community --> Teams

     From there search for LinusTechTips_Team

Registering for an account doesn't not seem to work if you do it through the BOINC Manager. I had to go to https://einsteinathome.org/user/registration to create one.

Failure is part of success. I may make mistakes, that's how we all learn.
