I've got a new (bigger) m.2 to upgrade the current one that I use for basically Windows and a minimal Steam library, and I think I'm overthinking the best way to go about implementing the switch. My mobo has two m.2 sockets, and I'm wondering if I should just put the new SSD in the second (unused) m.2 socket, copy Windows over to it, and just make it the boot drive in my BIOS? Or should I copy Windows to one of my 2.5"s, replace the smaller m.2 with the bigger one entirely and then copy Windows over to that? (FWIW, I don't really need to keep the small (old) SSD around, unless leaving it in place is just easier.)

why don't you leave windows on the smaller m.2 and have your steam library on the larger one? if you use the bigger m.2 as a boot drive just do a windows reinstall.
