So i recently built a new gaming Pc

specs are

MOBO-b550f-gaming Wifi 2

WD black 2tb nvme

Cpu- 5800x3d

GPU- Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080 Fresh pads and paste

RMA850w power supply? corsair

corsair lpx 2x16 3200mhz cl16 in slots 2 and 4

280mm nzxt aio.

i think that’s all the important stuff

But i’ve had a frame drop issue no matter what frames are set to Just did a fresh install hoping it would help and it didn’t

I’ve updated to newest Bios

under volted CPU

gpu is stock

Tried different ram

fresh install using ddu in safe mode leaving wifi off and installing drivers

Updated chipset drivers

Changed windows power settings and power settings in NVCP

and some other stuff i can’t think of

But just want help trying to figure this out I do work a lot so sorry if my responses arnt the quickest I’m Decently Tech savvy but been going down the worm hole on this one and worried it’s something simple

main game i test on is overwatch its only game i have downloaded

In bios i have DOcP set and PBO curved -30 along with the PBO scalar to x10 have tried with defaults with only XMP enabled still not better

Will upload Time spy later probably wensday. anything else that might help let me know thanks

Gone try turning PBO off and removing undervolt i think it’s actually at -25 right now

Tonight when i get home i will redownload 3d mark and get the Time spy results as well as Fur mark.

I do notice when the Fps drops the cpu is leaving Boost also sometimes have the power limit 1 but it’s super inconsistent sometimes the dips will be with the power limit sometimes not

Will also log with Hw monitor and MSI after burner to try and get as much info as possible

I would keep pbo on but change the pbo scaling option at 10x you can also leave pbo on enabled or advanced with just motherboard limits the most gains you will get with a 5800x3d is with the curveoptimiser.

Also its difficult to tell if your micro stutters are due to cpu or gpu (or something else) which 3080 do you have? 10gb 12gb? Check your vram usage in games if it is around full then the micro stutters will be from the VRAM buffer which would mean you need to change what settings you are using.

What is your cinebench r23 score?

Will get the cinebench r23 scores when i get home last time i checked it was pretty on par with other 5800x3d but will get actual score tonight

Its a 3080 10gb On overwatch i play on lower graphics to get best possible input lat and fps so stays around 1300mbs of vram

Will check what the frame buffer is sitting at

and that’s what i meant for pbo was setting it back to auto.

when i get home ill get everything downloaded and setup and will upload

also playing at 2560x1440p 180hz Asus monitor

I just ran these benchmarks my self just now

the cinebench score is good and where it should be for the cpu

and in time spy the cpu score is within 500points of my cpu.

I notice your CPU is max freq for the duration of the Time Spy benchmark? is that because you have locked that freq? (for ref mine is like this)

Spoiler

What kind of drops? During loading... Or when/how often does that happen? How big are these drops?

5800x3d doesn't support overclocking, and frankly doesn't need it... Try default settings.

Your 3dmark score is fine.

So, what are we trying to fix?

but have pbo set to auto and seems to be a lot more steady

Thanks for the help

Auto typically means off, because it doesn't support pbo, there you go...

(and yes I know it can be done with 3rd party software but as said it's not supported natively)

So in overwatch i get really low 1% Lows like if i was running uncapped average fps in fights is like 480-540

but my 1% lows would dip down to the 30-70 same with .1% lows

Under volted My Gpu And seems to be A lot better I think it might have been drawing to much and hitting wattage max

Now sits at 400 fps for my 1% lows occasionally dips to 300 but never see below that so i’m happy with it plus Temps are lower and only drawing 260 W compared to before it was 350+

Right i have been meaning to take a pic of my bios screen to show you my settings seeing as we have the same(ish) motherboard.

As @Mark Kaine said and reminded me tbh i forgot how limited the bios is with 5800x3D

You cant really go wrong.

Anyway tinker around abit and you will find the sweet spot for the cpu but i doubt its causing the microstutters.

These are my settings with a slight voltage offset, make sure you disable that asus performance enhancement

Something i find is working for me is limiting the fps on a per game basis to the refresh rate of the monitor or as close to, no point pushing 500fps on a 144hz monitor to me but i do it for noise and power consumption.

Yeah thanks for all the help. i narrowed it down to Ram Speed Picked up some Bdie 16gb(2X8) over locked and tightened timings at 3600mhz at cl14 Stable and brought my 1%lows to a much better Place. also brought my Score on time spy up to 17382 (GPU 18990, cpu 11748. I am super happy with the improvement tho. took my mem latency on aida from 80s to 65ish my cpu still stays locked on Benchmarks idk why that is might be newer bIos update only thing i’ve done is under volt CPU and turn up voltage for SOc voltage slightly but thanks for the help it’s appreciated

undervolted GPU as well
