Hello everybody!

We at our Government agency have about 50 PC : Fujitsu Esprimo P520 E85+(Intel i3-4130,4 GB RAM,HDD)- very slow and Fujitsu Esprimo E720 E85+(Intel i5-4690,4 GB RAM,the one i checked had an SSD)-better than the former. Since we have implemented a new virtual desk top infrstructure ,wich uses thin clients configured over a government network domain, the company are asking to make a decision over the Fujitsu. Please help me to make an argumented decision over, keeping in mind that the pc are connected in gov net, and GPO are applied.

1.Can the Fujitsu be reused as thin clients?

2.Is it cost effective to upgrade them with more RAM and replace the HDD with SSD?

Thank you!

Possibly, but it depends how expensive the memory would be (it is difficult to source now, especially if you have to go through approved suppliers).

Are these only connected to an internal network? If they're not, what OS is used?

If i remember correctly they have installed , one stick  Samsung PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600) 4 GB RAM installed.

The rule is that every pc must be connected on gov net domain,so on internal network. They provide us with windows licenses.

The reason I asked is because Windows 10 is dropping security updates (at least, for consumer PCs, not sure about Enterprise) and Windows 11 is not officially compatible with 4th gen, so I'm not sure if it would be worthwhile to upgrade them anyway.

Is there a way to obtain quotes for the replacement? If you have to go through an approved supplier, the upgrade might be far too expensive.

They can but it depends on the specs you need for your thin clients.

From my experience, it mainly depends on who does the upgrades and/or the replacements.

The greater part of the cost is usually labor. If the IT department does the upgrade, the cost should be lower than when done by an external firm.

So, it is more a matter of who does the work than the cost of the hardware itself in my opionion.

Good luck !
