Hey guys , i took some time for myself to think , currently im coming from an old rig with 4 cores cpu ,
and im thinking on amd cpu for light gaming and some productivity , im not a streamer or video editor but i do want to do that in the future
so how much difference a guy with 4 cores cpu will feel with 8 cores cpu or do i need even 12 cores cpu if im planning to use this pc to last 10 years like my current rig

my budget for cpu is around 400-500$

i would like to hear your thoughts please :)

4 cores is enough for basic everyday usage for browsing and office work but is already on the low side for multitasking and as software becomes more bloated. You'll likely notice a smoother experience going to 8 cores. Nowadays, 6 cores is becoming the norm rather than 4.

For light gaming and some productivity, spending more for 12 cores is likely unnecessary but 10 years is a big ask unless you really aren't doing much on the PC.

I'd recommend getting something solid for now and trying to upgrade more frequently instead of stretching the same hardware for 10 years. You'll likely get better overall performance that way.

Where are you shopping / located? $400-500 is a pretty substantial budget for just the CPU if it's USD.

I also recommend planning the build as a whole in the New Builds and Planning section instead of just looking at the CPU so that you get the most well-rounded system for your needs. It doesn't make too much sense to look at just the CPU.

An AMD B550 mainboard, Ryzen 4600G CPU and 2x 16GB RAM will do fine for your needs. The 4600G is actually an APU (CPU+GPU) so no need for an extra GPU, but might be difficult to find. The B550 board will give you the option for an dGPU later, should your needs require such. Alternatives for the CPU include the 4700G, 5600G and 5700G but at higher cost. A 3400G is probably cheaper, but less powerful, especially for graphics. But it'll probably be an improvement over what you now have anyway 😛
