Hi all I've been having an annoying black screen crash issue. Whats happening to me is when i start my pc it’ll black screen with full lockup after trying to launch a game forcing me to hard shut it down, however after i turn it back on it works completely fine, no issues can play games until I'm bored and turn the pc off which repeats the cycle next boot. very confused.

Weirdest crash I got was after starting it up I joined a discord call which is what caused it to crash that time, no games launched or anything. Just discord join sound and then black screen. it had me wondering if there’s a chance it’s audio drivers clashing? I had another crash that happened while watching a youtube video a few minutes after boot. I used DDU to wipe my nvidia drivers but i didn’t wipe any audio drivers.

I've tried reseating the gpu and a fresh install of the amd drivers and neither fixed the issue.

As of today though my hard reset didn't actually fix it and the computer still crashed 3 times, once right after startup, another when opening adrenalin (saw some artifacting that time too)

I hadn't realized that I didn't enable amd expo in bios until now so my ram wasn't running at 6000mhz until just now, my pc hasn't crashed YET since updating that I'm hoping that might fix? I'm at a loss here
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I have more or less the same exact issue when I open up any application like Excel it can crash. It doesn´t occur immediately but it does happen from time to time (frequency rate of 3/5 times per 10 case uses of my PC).

I also reseated my GPU, changed memory timings, downclocked my CPU, purchased a new PSU (750W to 850W from ThermalTake), swapped SSD´s, did driver uninstall + reinstall and even resetted Windows. All to no avail because in any changed scenario I still would have a locked screen where the display would just turn black and become unresponsive.

This saturday I will test it again but with a different motherboard (Gigabyte x870 Gaming wifi 6), now I am currently running 9800x3d, 9070XT gigabyte gaming OC, Asus tuf gaming plus B850 Wifi7, DDR5 Ram G.skill @ 6200Mhz (stable run with TM5).

In the end I  believe it is a drives issue from AMD because when I uninstalled the GPU drives I would not have any crash whatsoever when using the same scenarios.

In any case will keep you updated and I hope others come to the same conclusion. Perhaps you could inform AMD with this issue? I am very busy unfortunately..
