I was just able to scarf up an old IBM Server X3200 from my work before it got donated to the dumpster. I am looking to turn it into my own home server for mostly game server hosting. I recently upgraded my gaming computer so i was going to use the motherboard cpu and ram outve that. I was looking at the connections and saw a few different type of connections from the PSU that i never have seen along with the hotswap having a SASCard single point connection. What i was thinking is upgrade/update the PSU to get to the modern connections and get a PCIE SAS card to keep the single point connection. I was wondering on everyone's thoughts to this as this is my first server setup and if anyone has done something like this and has a recommendation on the PCIE SAS card. Thank you all for your thoughts in advance.

Not trying to burst your bubble, but that system is nearing 20 years old and wouldn’t be worth the power to run it at idle.

Any money you spend on parts for it would be better spent buying a one or two generation old office desktop for the same purpose.

I reread and realized I missed the part where you said you were changing out the CPU motherboard and memory. Regarding the power supply: it’s going to be a lot easier to just go with a modern PSU and skip trying to use old connections. I’m not 100% certain but IBM did use a lot of proprietary connectors in that area that may not be something you can replicate just with adapters. Whatever you do, it’s still gonna look pretty cool though!
