Just read an article on PC Gamer, linked below, that EA put together a GitHub of the original Command and conquer source code. I can't wait to see what the  community is able to do with this code. I would love to see a spiritual successor of these games by the community including everything we loved and enjoyed, even though we have the remastered edition at this point. IMO no rts command and conquer style games have been able to recreate the fun that these games were. Even just seeing and going through the source code of how the game operates under the hood, makes me appreciate all the people involved with creating these games at a time where unreal engine or unity weren't available (except some basic IDEs) and all the code had to be mostly manually written.

PC Gamer Article

Command and conquer was by far my most favorite franchise of my childhood. Learning at 7 years old how to setup local lan with my friend and his dad so we could have versus matches in his basement was so memorable. Makes me want to dust off my old Pentium MMX 233 and windows 95 boot disk.

Love to hear about your command and conquer memories or thoughts of how the source code could be used by the community.

It's a game from 1995, at this point the code is thoroughly outdated. If you wanted to make a "spiritual successor" this probably isn't where you'd want to start, but rather rebuild it from scrach using a modern game engine.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

I definitely see your point and can agree, at the same time having it I feel at least is a win for preservation of this content if not anything else. Regardless having a successor that has the same realistic feel of these games would be great. The newer rts games in this series, while good became too cartoony for me. Maybe I'm just getting set in my ways at this point when it comes to gaming. Lol
