What would be the best solution to play in 4k 240hz, while streaming from a second computer at 1080p 60/30hz.

I currently have an older Elgato UHD60 capture card from a while back which can stream just fine. If I were to keep the UHD60 would duplicating my display as a second monitor to send to the streaming computer be the best option.

And would this have any major issues running two different resolutions at different framerates? Obviously performance would take a hit on my gaming computer and its already difficult to run some games at 4k 240hz.

The Elgato 4k Pro does not have the passthrough capability to game in 4k 240hz while streaming at a lower res.

The second question is about audio. I feel like I'm just overlooking an easy solution.

I know I could take the virtual cable route but I was not a fan of the quality or experience of it. I might've set it up poorly so let me know if you have had better success in terms of quality.

Could I add a piece of hardware to split the final audio from my mic to both computers?

As for game sound (and voice chat), can I also split this between both my streaming PC and my headphones?

Current audio setup:

Microphone:

  • Shure SM7B > DBX 286s > Scarlett Solo > Gaming PC

Headset:

  • Gaming PC > Schiit Modius > Schiit Magnius > Sennheiser HD800s

If you're only aiming for 1080 60 then just use 1 machine

I guess the reasoning behind using a dual pc setup would be that I have a secondary pc that I don't use anymore. It's got an i7 7700k and a 1080 TI.

I figured if it takes some of the load off my gaming pc where running 4k 240hz can be difficult at times that would be a win. I will still take your input though! I will try and stream it from the same machine and monitor performance.

there's also the option to do a "fast" capture on the primary pc, and stream to the capture pc at something like 100Mbit, then encode it down with stream overlays and such on the secondary pc. that avoids the nature of trying to capture a high res high refresh rate signal in hardware.

as for the audio side of things.. i've tried a lot of software things over the years, and i've sort of concluded they all suck.. if possible, do your audio in hardware.

also, i'm very much a proponent of the dual pc streaming setup, because you can control the stream without having to tab out of the game.
