Hi! Welcome!

I'm not sure why you need a budget to sell stuff - or are you asking which parts to replace? If so, it depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to play games, the RAM might be OK to keep, if you stick to the AM4 motherboard platform, and if that is the case, the motherboard is probably OK for a while yet - you could get up to a 5900X3D for it.

The rest probably is not up to much. Your PSU might be OK, but you have not included any details on it.

Literally a single culprit here and it's that GT 710. My 7 year old GTX 960 2GB is faster and that was agonizingly slow. Find a used 5700XT, 1080TI or equivalent for like $250AUD, your PC will get an entirely new life.

Perfectly good performance if you just upgrade the GPU. It was a mistake to get a GT 710 in the first place. Your dad likely bought the Threadripper with no GPU, later realised nothing works cause there's no onboard graphics so bought the next cheapest things on store shelves which is always a GT 710 or 1030:

Uh buddy that is a thread ripper aka the socket is TR4 not AM4 as the Threadrippers are Server CPUs not normal ones, old buddy got a server basically

It also depends on IF they can take the ram and re use but it is probably ddr4 and maybe can be used on ddr4 mobos but that also depends on the ram and the mobo itself

The psu also is a 50/50 and I cant guarantee is compatible with consumer platforms

The gpu is a bust and wont do regardless

Realistically they could sell whatever they can and use the extra money to buy a new machine OR just get a new GPU and be fine for a while till they can have a whole new actual PC

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

I got the budget from what I think I could sell the parts for and to use the money towards more compatible and suited parts for what I need. I don't know much about compatibility between different PC parts, what should I try replace immediately? The PSU is 900W but I'm not sure what rating it is though. I'm pretty much just gonna be using it for gaming, ill be playing most things including Triple A and indie games.

Buy the most powerful GPU you can find for 600 CAD (you can compare them using tests from YouTube), and if performance wouldn't be sufficient you can think about replacing CPU. The rest is fine. Look for something like 7900 GRE or RTX 3090 (used ones), but RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT would also be fine.

1 Trhreadripper costs as much as modern CPU+MB+RAM combo.

But you could also just keep the build and upgrade GPU and probably PSU if the one inside the build isn't good.

And Threadripper core parts, cost almost as much as someone's new entire PC:

Of course these are prices for brand new parts.

In the US that's ~3-400$ machine. I will say that it would be a fantastic server.
That 710 is an ewaste card so if you wanted to game on it you'd 100% want to replace it. And honestly I think that's probably the best path. I feel the TR4 chips are underpriced on the used market right now and DDR4 memory isn't a big money maker either. I'd just grab a nice used 30 or 40 series GPU and game at 1440p. If you have ~0 money, I'd grab a 1060 6GB (or AMD equivalent) because they're fine and very cheap, though they will be ending support soon so maybe a 1650 ti.

You could put a lower-end GPU in there and have a decent baseline gaming system, but I think you should sell this system as-is and put the money towards an entirely new system on a regular consumer platform like AM5. Somebody who wants a decent home server would probably be really interested in this, but if you're wanting to use it for a gaming PC, it's never going to be great simply because the TR4 socket doesn't have any compatible CPUs that will be great at gaming and also reasonably priced.

The 1950X is awesome for multi-threaded tasks but for tasks that are more single-thread intensive like gaming, it's not going to be very good, even when paired with a much better GPU than the GT 710.
