Laptop recommendations

A friend of mine is a lecturer of a University level media studies course, including movie, podcasting and new media such as YouTube. He has been using an older Macbook which is finally starting to give up and cause him several problems. He is looking to get a new laptop but doesn't really know what options are out there and good for his use case. He has a desktop which he can do any real heavy lifting on, but would like to be able to do some light video editing, and definitely use during his podcast recordings for monitoring, recording to, etc. If he could also do some gaming, then great! Any recommendations out there? I've already thrown him the likes of the Asus G14

plug into Apple Refurbished and try to find an M2 Macbook Air or M2 Pro Macbook Pro. Simple shop.

Given what he already has, I’d either echo SorryBella’s recommendation, spring for the entry MacBook Pro M4, or wait for the relatively close MacBook Air M4 update.

 

It'll provide a familiar experience that’s great for the tasks you describe.

I completely agree. I am the user of an M2 Macbook air myself, and it'll suit his needs just fine.
