I am currently getting a list of gear ready to make a professional media server for large screens at concerts and events and tv shows etc.

I have my budget and kit list prepared using the software creators guide. (In my case I need to build the system around the software and what hardware it is most compatible with).

I have a flight case designed etc so the tower will be supported by foam but I am still worried about the internal components, mainly the gpu. I have gone for an entirely ssd system (for mobility and faster loading of multiple hd video files at a time) and there are no other cards than a small hdmi capture and a small hd-sdi (pro video signal) card.

Any suggestions on how to make the system more "robust"? I am expecting to just mod the inside of the case, building some plastic supports etc.

Comments, ideas?

Get a backplate and a support bracket. I believe the bracket I listed will work on any 780 even without a waterblock and there are other models of the bracket. The backplate well its just an example, ASUS, EVGA and most of the others either sell them or the GPU comes with one

EDIT: I was thinking and you could probably custom make a bracket that goes under the front of the GPU shroud and then wraps around torwards the motherboard and then has a mounting hole so that the bracket supports the GPU by attaching to the center motherboard standoff. "I'm a genius", lol

Budget is not the issue...

The issue is that this pc MUST arrive at each concert on a tour in working condition, that the people loading and unloading the trucks and the potholes in the roads dont put too much force on all the parts.

 

This also means that for me the backplates linked above make it worse, they add weight to the card.......

I will also be NOT installing any water cooling. Theres no way I can risk opening the case to find everything wet... I will be jamming this case full with as many fans as I can. They dont need to be silent, you wont hear them of a large sound system.... just keep air moving.

 

The software is directx based so pretty much the same workload as gaming or a basic video render.

 

 

I am more wondering about products to better secure the cards within the case.. Shock protecting hardware etc etc.

Like I said, I may just have to build something myself that supports the card from the removable side pannel... so it is supported by the card slot, the standard connector plate and the pc case's cover when installed.

Nope...

Must be minimum micro atx....

I still need to add (as an example) blackmagic HDMI and SDI capture cards and more gigabit ethernet cards, Also rarely a blackmagic SDI output card.

 

(the software is controlled by lighting desks on 1 network and in some cases, led screens are driven by gigabit ethernet signals rather than the typical DVI, the software also accepts a streaming input from other pc's via its own screen capture software.. So i can easily end up needing 3 or 4 individual gigabit ports + pro video (sdi) capture + GPU).

 

Like I said.. I have all the hardware selected using the software manufacturers specifications... this pc really is being built round just one highly profesional program.... They guarantee their software with certains GPU's etc so while others may be more powerfull or cheaper, I need to buy what they have tested and recomended to be sure that mid concert, the video signal to the screens that 10's if not 100's of thousands of people will see, crashes.

 

I am only worried about the physical act of it being transported around on tour and stressing card slots etc.
