If I read you correctly, you changed your KVM for a USB switcher but you are using it to switch your mouse and keyboard like a KVM. Right ?

It's hard to tell but some input devices do not like being disconnected and reconnected. It is possible that your mouse or keyboard tries to switch to another method to try to reconnect when you use the switcher. Also, it is possible that your mouse or keyboard gets configured some way when one one computer but the other computer tries to configure with different settings. Thus a disconnect issue.

What can be done ? Since you don't need the video switcher, I think you can still find basic KVMs with USB input devices and some archaic display connector (vga or dvi) for a very low cost.

You may also consider a software solution. I think RDP and VNC utilities can send inputs to another computer via the local network. That way, you can leave your mouse and keyboard always connected to the same computer but send the inputs to the other computer when needed. RDP is built into Windows (remote desktop protocol) and VNC is a third party open-source software.

Good luck !

Hi, I wondered if anybody could help someone who is a bit clueless when it comes to this subject!

I have had a KVM switch for a little while to share my mouse and keyboard with my work laptop and gaming PC. I don't share the monitors (as I have them setup separately 2 for work one for gaming, so I can work and play)

I have recently brought a new mouse and keyboard but I am having issues switching now on both machines. I think it's the settings as the new mouse and keyboard have different connection options (Bluetooth wired and something else!) But what ever i choose only one device works when I switch.

If I list what I'm using can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? I didn't have this issue before I got a new keyboard and mouse.
