display not detected

my graphics card does not have a vga port, and my second monitor only supports vga ( its an old monitor ), so i bought a dp to vga convertor, it worked fine in the shop but it does not seem to work in my pc, in windows settings it says display not detected, i even tried connecting my main monitor with the convertor ( as it does have hdmi and a vga port ) but it outputs "NO SIGNAL", any solutions ?, thank you
