I have a very strange problem. For some unknown reason, my PC will display on any monitor, but for anything that isn’t a monitor (whether it’s an HDMI switch or a TV), it recognizes it and it shows up in the settings as a usable display, but no image appears. I’ve tried changing the cable (which works with my laptop), connecting the laptop to the same TV (and it works perfectly), connecting only the TV without the monitor at the same time, and I’ve also tried another operating system (both on Windows and Ubuntu it says it’s connected and that it’s displaying, but nothing shows). What could it be? I have a Gigabyte RTX 3060 graphics card, paired with a Ryzen 5600X. I habe already tried updating drivers on bots OS. If it's any help, my TV is a Samsung UN46F7500AG.

It depends on what you are trying to display. Is it a movie ? Some of these have some special requirements named HDCP (copy protection) and if only one component is not compliant the monitor displays a black screen.

Also, you can try setting the multi-monitor mode in Windows settings to Clone mode. Make sure all monitors are enabled.

Last thing, Nvidia cards are able to use 4 displays at a time IIRC. The number physical ports on the card is irrelevant.

Hope that helps.

Merry Xmas !

I'm trying to duplicate my screen, extend or even just use it as a single monitor, in order to play videogames from my couch. I've tried all of those settings in both OS, and none of them have worked :(. I'm really unsure why my PC appears to be unable to display on anything that's not a monitor, I've got a laptop with similar specs that was able to use the same TV as a screen effortlessly (sadly, it's got power problems on its own, which is why I haven't sticked with just using it lol).

Merry Xmas to you as well 🙂

One thing I forgot to mention, did you try lowering the resolution ? TVs may not be able to display even 1080p. So, 720p or 800x600 may be required to get an image.

Worst case scenario, Nvidia or Samsung or both decided that you need to purchase a monitor. I'm not aware of such a thing but with automatic updates, you never know what shenanigans they can implement....

Yup, I've tried every single resolution available. It's a 1080p TV, it should be good to go. What's even weirder, is that it doesn't work with any TV apparently, I just tried plugging in to 2 other HDMI TVs (and they work with the aforementioned laptop!!!) and neither of them seem to work, even if my PC recognizes both of them, maybe I got a TVphobic GPU? LOL.

That's a good joke but it may also be the truth. Maybe Nvidia introduced something in their drivers that makes TVs unusable (or require some weird setting)  as a monitor.

I am not familiar with your TVs so I am out of ideas on what to try next.

You may try using a Linux Live USB drive. It can prove if it is an issue with Windows+drivers or with hardware.

Good luck again 🙂

I actually daily drive Pop OS (a fancier Ubuntu), so I tried there first. What blows my mind is that my laptop works flawlessly with the same driver version, same OS, same cable, but my PC just won't work. I guess I'll have to give up. Thanks for trying, cheers!
