Hello

So at the moment i'm using 16 GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 3200 mhz.

I recently checked with AIDA 64 in the Summary menu it says it's 3200 mhz but it also specifies like this : (24-22-22-52 @ 1600 Mhz) for both of my current RAM sticks.

I have 2 questions :

1) what is the actual speed my RAM is running at : 3200 or 1600 ?

2) which brand and model would you guys recommend buying ?

For question NO 2 i have to specify that i want to buy 32 GB DDR4 because i plan on switching to AM5 and DDR5 in 1-2 years at the most.

Would greatly appreciate any help possible with this.

3200 which is 1600 at Double Data Rate (DDR)

I usually get Corsair or G Skill, but there are quite a few brands that are equally reputable.
I'd recommend getting 2x16GB @ 3600MT

@OddOod

I was looking at the Corsair Vengeance but i saw a lot of people saying they had issues with it : didn't ran at the speed it was supposed and some people even said their PCs refused booting into the OS after installing the kit.

Are they actually good or not ?

Should i get G Skill instead or what other brand ?

Also in AIDA 64 it says it's 3200 DDR4 but SDRAM - not sure if that's accurate or not.

First gen DDR5 was *rough* As was first gen DD4, and first gen DDR3. DDR4 is now old hat so you should be very safe with whatever you get
It wasn't really a problem with the ram per se, more a problem with the ram, the CPU, and the mobo.

If you want to be certain, check if your mobo has a Qualified Vendor List, that should detail all the kits the manufacturer has specifically tested and verified to work

ddr so 3200 is advertised/effective speed while 1600 is the real speed

IMG_20240330_233353.thumb.jpg.e9ba5766ec80228368cf2df120dc0b55.jpg

heres my example at ddr3 3400 so while the bios would say 3400 cpuz says 1700 though i cant run this in bios as the highest i can get it to post in bios is 3312 iirc

branding literally doesnt matter just get the cheapest 3200c16 or 3600c18 kit you can find theyre all the same hynix samsung or micron ics with different heatspreaders and irrelevant pcb differences (as in the pcb doesnt start mattering till north of 5000)

btw what specific cpu do you have?

i assume its either zen2 or zen3 based but the apus can clock much higher in excess of 4600

and you can save abit of money if you put in a little effort and source matching rams so you dont have to replace them but you have to identify ic first which you can do with thaiphoon burner so send a screenie here just incase it might be a good ic thats worth keeping

I'm on an RYZEN 5 3600 at the moment.

I was planning on switching to AM5 and DDR5 in 1-2 years at max but i'm currently on 16 GB DDR4.

I'm not entirely sure i should buy a 32 GB DDR4 kit because i'm a bit worried 16 GB might not be enough for upcoming games like ASSASSINS CREED SHADOWS, DOOM DARK AGES, GEARS OF WAR EDAY.

The thing is i never actually had any issues with 16 GB so far - like i've never encountered a game that actually maxed out my RAM even with 16 GB so i'm not sure if i'd be wasting 60 euros on getting that 32 GB DDR4 kit rather than actually waiting 1-2 years until i switch to AM5 and DDR5.

For ryzen 3600 I'd stick to 3200cl16.

I'm curious why you're showing cl24 tho .

The 14 page one is from 2020 while the 16 page one is from 2021. Update your BIOS and you can definitely rely on the 2021 if you've updated your BIOS, otherwise, just trust the 2020 version

Personally, I went from running 16Gb of Corsair Vengeance at 3200 (2x8), to 32Gb (4x8), and noticed very little to no difference.

for note I’m running a 5600x on a B550.

I wish I had saved the money towards a DDR5 mobo and kit.

tbh size wise it appears most gaming is going into the GPU so best also spending the extra money on VRam.

I would say that's very true from a gaming performance perspective, but when I went to 32 I did notice that my day to day usage of the computer was much smoother. But I run a lot of tabs and several electron apps

That’s what I don’t do, if I’m gaming it’s only that tab open and MAYBE HWMonitor but majority of time, just the game.

And I respect the heck out of that dedication. But I don't play any really sweaty games, so I'm not chasing those last few FPS. And I'm *lazy*
