First of all, you should get the idea of "compressing" their size out of your mind - that's not going to happen to any meaningful extent.

The files will not be corrupted by being added to a single archive file. Corruption will occur if:
 

  • Another program modifies them (malware, unwanted malicious encryption, legit encrpytion and losing the keys, user error when modifying the file) - or -
  • The medium on which they are stored degrades.

If a bit is flipped within, a file is "corrupt", whether it's compressed or not. Compression does not effect the chances of a bit flipping.

 

Different file formats can tolerate more or less corruption either by design or happenstance. However, intrinsically, compressed formats all do horribly with corruption, and more vs less compression isn't going to meaningfully matter. Compressed formats like 7z and RAR will store checksums/CRCs/etc of the constituent files in order to warn on decompress of corruption.

 

As an exercise for the reader, why not make a test compressed file, open in HxD and change a byte, save, close, and see what 7z/WinRAR does?

So compressing in rar format in the modes: normal or good or excellent doesn't make any difference in making the file easy or difficult to randomly corrupt in Future in storage?

 

Use excelent compress mode with winrar not corrupta filé gerated?

 

 winrar can test for corruption in zip, rar, 7z files?
