Hello everyone!

My current computer is from 2017, I do play a lot of games on it, I also do a lot of multitasking on the system. I play on 1080p, but would like to upgrade my monitor in the future to a 1440p with 240hz.

Current specs ; i7 7700k @4.2Ghz, 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz and a 1080GTX

From what I have read, everyone is advising the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. My question is, would this processor also be good for multitasking? Or would a Ryzen 7 7700x be a better choice for gaming and multitasking? I don't know much about AMD, I just read the reviews, I have always owned INTEL.

Yes, the 7800X3D will also be good at multitasking.  It is still a super fast 8 core 16 threaded CPU.

Problem right now is that the 7800X3D has gone up significantly in price and the 7700X is very well priced right now.

I personally use the 7700x for gaming only and its been plenty fast paired with my RTX 4080.

I don't feel like I am missing out on the 7800X3D.

Either way, they will absolutely demolish the Intel 7700k that you currently use.

I personally went from owning only Intel CPU's and an overclocked 9900k to a Ryzen 7700x and I don't think I will be owning Intel again any time soon.

Thank you! I will go with the Ryzen 7 7700x .

What do you think of this? GPU I will buy next year, waiting for prices to drop a bit.

The degradation issue that has plagued most of the 13th and 14th gen Intel cpus are still in the fresh memory. It should be ok with the recent microcode on new built systems. Let's hope so....

The Core Ultra series hasn't recieved that great response either....

AMD cpus can be abit tricky sometimes with the memory.

But other than that they're a solid choice.

That looks like a great build 🙂

I personally use the AK620 Digital with my 7700x myself and the temperatures are geat.

I have it set at a constant 40% fan speed, this makes it inaudible without my headset on and plenty enough cooling even while heavy gaming.

I have also personally used the Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX in multiple AM5 builds. Great board 🙂

I also really like the G.Skill Flare X5.  They aren't very tall so no complications with the front fan on the Ak620.

I will be using my old case, which is the Fractal Design R5. I am not really into RGB or cases with a window, this case has sound dampening foam on the side panels so it's more "quieter" I just placed the order for the components, looking forward to build it over the weekend.

How much more are you expecting prices to drop?

7900xt is in the 600's, xtx low 800's.

The 7900xt is crowding on the 6900xts price, so there is a limit to how far they drop.

It's Christmas time, prices are in a good place.

Thats a good case 🙂  I had the R5 with a window a few years back.

Just wanted to double check the CPU cooler height clearance for the AK620 and its plenty room in the R5.

Sounds good!  It will be a great machine 🙂

Thanks Hinjima for all the help!

@Dedayog

I have time, I will see next year when NVIDIA is releasing the 5 series and maybe I can buy a graphics card from someone that maybe wants the latest new card. I don't have a good experience with AMD GPU drivers.

AHh, you want to go used.  Understood.

AMD drivers are great now, and have been for a bit.  I run 4 of their cards now, without issue.  I wouldn't have continued buying them if I did.

Take that for what it's worth.

Ok, that's good to know! Which AMD card would you recommend for 1440p for the upcoming 4 years?

With your refresh demands?  At least the 7900XT or 4070Ti Super.  Are you in the US?

It looks like I am mistaken, all the BF/CM sales are done and prices are back up.  Stock is severely lacking though as well.  You may have to wait a bit either way, for AMD or Nvidia.

If your budget allows you to go with the 9700x over the 7700x, it is both more efficient and better for gaming and productivity. It matches the 7800x3d in gaming when allowed the full 105w power limit. Same board, same ram, just a better processor if you can afford the $50-$60, and way less than the 7800x3d

I have already ordered the parts, I will see in a few years if I have to upgrade the CPU.

I do have another question, I ordered this M.2 SSD ; WD Black SN850X 2TB with the following (read 7300MB/s and write 6600MB/s speeds) I still have one more M.2 in my current old computer from 2017 which is the Crucial P1 first generation 500GB with the following read 2000MB/s and write 1700Mb/s speeds. It is a lot slower than the new M.2 SSD, would it be smart to use the old Crucial for my boot drive only for Windows and use the new M.2 for games only? Or is it better to make a partition on the new 2TB M.2 SSD? Like 300Gb for Windows and the rest for games?

I'd personally run the 500GB as a boot drive, leaving the 2TB for games.

Speeds do not matter for Windows and gaming, the way and size of the files do not lend themselves to unleash the sustained read speeds the drives are hyping.

For instance you couldn't tell if a PC had a SATA SSD at 500MB/sec read or a 10k/sec read drive in it.

But if you want to "peace of mind" it since the human brain is almost incapable of rationalizing it, make the partition.

I have a silly question here, I bought this AM5 motherboard ; Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX V2 and I have the Corsair RM850x PSU model number RPS0124 (2021) version.

The question I have is that the motherboard has an 8 pin and 4 pin CPU connection at the top, do I need both connections or is 8pins fine for the Ryzen 7 7700x?

Thanks 🙂
