I have filmed in 4K with my phone and look forward to learning how to edit in DaVinci Resolve and to save in 1440p or 1080p for YouTube.

I saw that old DDR4 RAM is cheap now and I got tempted to add more memory, but when dreaming, my imagination runs wild about what to choose.

Asus B550-E motherboard, 5900X, GeForce RTX 3070, 2x16GB VENGEANCE® RGB PRO (3600 MT/s, 1.2V, dual rank, XMP2, 18-22-22-42)

Should I buy an additional kit so I have 4x16GB? Or would you set these aside and buy 2x32GB or 4x16GB of a different model?

(My graphics card is something I should consider as well, but it is more expensive)

I would suggest a matching kit. Go for the 2X32 GB

Thanks.

TomsHardware list Patriot Viper Steel (PVS464G360C8K). 18-20-20-40. 1,35V as their top 2x32gb in AMD-benchmark test.

But what does the LTT forum say? 🙂

Do you have issues with 32GB currently? You can go pretty far with 32GB of ram from my experience.

This, SOOO many people really think they need much more RAM than they do...

I know this because I'm one of those people, with my second system having 256GB of RAM, which is just silly, but I got it because you never know when you need a mountain of ram

If someone has helped you out on the forum don't forget to give them a reaction to say thank you!

I haven't started editing yet; I'm still filming. I read in a DaVinci Resolve thread where someone said that anything over 32GB is an advantage. And since the price of RAM isn't that high, it felt okay to upgrade to be on the safer side. Additionally, I sometimes use VirtualBox, which I also believe benefits from more memory.

- But it's valuable that you question this as I'm considering spending the money on other items instead, such as studio monitors and other things that would be beneficial for editing.

I'd say 32GB is plenty for most 1080p/1440p resolve work. And since you started shooting footage, why not throw it on a test time line to see if you run into memory errors?
