I've a 2 part question regarding upgrading my GPU to either the RX7900 xtx or 4080 super.

1. Is it worth upgrading now or should I wait for the next gen gpus? I understand they are coming out in Jan and the current gen gpus have not really gotten much cheaper.

2. My monitor, the Alienware AW3423DW (not the F version as I'm currently on Nvidia) only has native G-sync support. So I'm not sure if using a AMD gpu with it would limit the monitor's capabilities such as HDR1000, variable refresh rate, etc. Tried researching online but opinions are really mixed.

Any advice or views on these issues is greatly appreciated!

What are you upgrading from? If its bad, upgrade, but if your current GPU is working fine, you might as well wait for the new cards.

If Linus’s video about the tariffs is true I would upgrade now but if it isn’t true I would wait.

Note if i were to upgrade i would get the 7900xtx

Tariffs are going to happen and will raise the prices, but the cards still may be better. the 7900xtx is a good upgrade, but what GPU do you currently have? Not worth it if you have an already good GPU.

Well, AMD's next gen cards won't be performance focused, more budget focused rather.
Nvidia's pricing will go trough the roof, so if you do want to buy, wait for the 5000 series, wait a bit and look at the local market for fools that upgraded, get the GPU on the cheap.
As for now or wait, it's a 50/50. Problem is nobody knows how the 5090 will be. We all know how the 12vhpw ended up: burning people's cards.(Yes I know it usually happend due to user error, but it's horific that you lose 2k because you just didn't plug a wire all the way in.)
Who knows what issues the 5000 series will bring?
I'd suggest just going with a 7900xtx unless you have creative tasks in the near future. It's cheaper and sometimes even better than the 4080S.
If you really do want the 5000 series, wait a bit for the reviews and fixes, then buy it.

1.  Are you sure?  Have you seen pricing right now?

2.  AMD GPUs will only re-introduce screen tearing, which is what GSync gets rid of when paired with an Nvidia GPU.

I'd buy now, it's prime shopping season.
