i dont know your local pricing so i cant say but cheek out GPU Benchmarks Hierarchy 2024 - Graphics Card Rankings | Tom's Hardware. we are about to get rtx5000, rx8000 and arc battlemage. its worth waiting at least till everything launches.

msi mortar, tomahawk are always good. asus tuf and strix are always good. forum will be here in 6 monts when you need help.  as for the cpus amd doesn't have many in the first place so its hard to mess up, just get anything with first number higher than 6 and there should not be a g after the number. x, xt or nothing is fine.

Budget (including currency): IDR 20,000,000 (can budge a little depending on plan)

Country: Indonesian Rupiah

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Monster Hunter Wilds, JRPGs released by either: Falcom, ATLUS, Square Enix, etc. Emulation

Other details:

Existing parts:

- I5 12400

- XFX 6700XT

- DDR4 Klevv Bolt 32GB (16x2)

- Lenovo G32qc-30 (1440p 165hz VA)

- Peripherals (Keeb, mouse, soundbar)

Plans (Still up for debate):

- 14700k / 7800x3d depending on price

- 7900 GRE

- An OLED monitor if the price is right (and it's a 32 inch, I can't go back after experiencing such a big screen)

- DDR5 ram (if it actually makes a big difference)

- New power supply because the current one (500w) will probably not be enough

Not sure when I'll be upgrading yet, maybe around mid to the end of next year if the gaming landscape continues like this. I just want to know a good path to upgrade as more things roll out.

Is this a realistic upgrade path or is it too costly for the price?

i have no idea because i dont know how much stuff costs in your country but here are my thoughts-

for the CPU, it makes the most sense to geta 13700k. in terms of gaming its almost the same as a 14900k. changing the platform or motherboard does not make sense because you have a long way to go with your platform.

for the ram. leave it. its almost never worth it unless the problem is the capacity.

can you specify your motherboard, power supply spec, ram speed and timings, ambient temperature, cpu cooler and case (pic if its a random one)

Gladly!

Right now I'm using an Asrock B660M Pro RS/AX because of a previous post here which Timedping responded to. As for power supply, my current build ran out of budget so I settled with an old Deepcool AG400 Plus which should probably be replaced later.. as for ram speed and timings, it's running on 3600 MT/s with the timings of 18-22-22-42.

Ambient temperature is sitting at a cool 32 degrees C and the case is a random one I found on my local store (The side glass is broken and I have yet to replace it. Ignore it). It managed to fit my XFX 6700 XT with a few CMs of clearance.

good idea, the 14700k alone can take up more than half of that.

ur VRMs will melt(not litrally) if you put anything more power hungry than a 12700k or 13600k in it. and even then these two will be held back. (source) its really not worth it to upgrade the cpu on that motherboard. you will have to change your motherboard for a serious upgrade.

the only things you can keep in a full upgrade is your storage, and case. so balance your budget accordingly. i cant make specific part recommendations right now with both intel 16h gen and zen6 having uncertainty around them and the gpu industry getting many gpu launches in Q1 2025

Yeah that's what I figured.. maybe I'll wait for the new years before rethinking about the upgrade path.. so far, I guess I'll just add the 13700k to the wishlist and prepare for a motherboard and power supply swap in the future

Noted, guess I'll stay patient and wait until everything comes out. Thanks for the help, cheers!
