So a few days ago I had a monitor completely kick the bucket, it started randomly flickering colors up and down, and the power button didn't work to turn if off, so I unplugged and replugged, followed all the steps I saw online, no dice, it won't turn on. It was about 4-5 years old, so it sucks but wasn't entirely out of the realm of possibility.

But then today, I turn on my PC and my microphone isn't turning on either (HyperX Quadcast X) I try to follow the steps but it won't even show up in device manager. I try plugging it into a different PC and still no dice. Both of these devices had been having issues (monitor always had an issue with being at its max hz and would do a similar color flickering, mic in recent months needed to be replugged after the PC turned on) and the rest of my peripherals and everything have had no issues.

I guess my worry right now is I don't know if this is just bad luck or if something worse is going on like a bad mobo (x570 AORUS Elite WIFI, system is about 4 years old). I don't really know what to do or how to proceed and any help would be incredibly appreciated......

4 years old is pretty old for a system. Realistically, It's not a wild thought that your peripherals just, kick the bucket naturally. You usually start to see some problems about this much time in.
If your microphone is also 4 years old, I wouldn't be surprised it also has issues.
You can try stuff like a diffrent cable, port on the motherboard and maybe update the drivers. But after that, your options are either try and get it fixed or buy something else.

4 years is not old for a system or monitor at all.. What are you talking about?

I've been told 4-5 years is about average for electronics. I guess I was misinformed?

Maybe for cheaper products bought on Wish.com but overall I would say electronics will last a lot longer than that.

Especially computer components.

Most popular GPU on Steam Hardware Survay for 2024 was 3060, this released 4 years ago.

Many people are still running on CPU's from 2011-2015.

The GTX 1060 released in 2016, thousands of people are still rocking this bad boy.

Decent PSU's come with 10-12 year warranties right?

Good quality speakers can easily last 40-50 years.

Average lifespan of a monitor is 10-20 years if used around 8 hours a day.

Of course components can fail, it happens. But I would say electronics can last quite a lot longer than 4-5 years.

I could go on 😄

I see, yeah that makes more sense when I think about it. Well, the more you know, thank you.

Well, coming back to the original proble, maybe the moba or/and cable are the problem?

We learn by asking questions!  🙂 No Problem.

Agreed, lets go back to the problem that OP is having.

Sounds like OP has been hit by a series of unfortunate events..

@msrosebud I will check back tomorrow and see if you have gotten help / fixed your issue.

Its 3AM here and I desperately need sleep.

I will agree with you on the speakers.  I have a pair of Bose 901's that I bought while stationed at Korat, Thailand back at the end of the Vietnam conflict and they still work like new.  No complaints at all.

I think what I determined is the only two things that broke were already having issues, and if it was a mobo shorting then something else likely would've been affected, like my 6-8 year old mouse or something. So what I've done is swapped the cords and have new peripherals in (with warranties to be safe) and will just proceed as is. I genuinely think it's just bad luck, but I just panicked bc of how weird it was. Thank you all so much for the advice/help, yall are wonderful ❤️

I agree with you.  As I said above, you had a series of unfortunate events.

If the motherboard was shorting something you would see more issues in my opinion.

Good luck to you! Hope all goes well with the new peripherals 🙂

Just keep an eye on things for the first few days.
