Hello All,

I need some help with a recent PC build i have done.

The Issue
The PC boots and operates perfectly. I had it set up and fully operating on WiFi at my location and there wer no issues with the internet or downlaod speeds etc.

Once the PC was moved to my nephews house (Different location to mine) the PC booted and worked fine with the excetpion of the WiFi. The PC does not connect to the router, and when attempting to connect to ther router the router resets the modem like every single time. The issue also results in a dramatic drop in speed from 100Mbps down to just over 1.7Mbps (i in Australia and our internet is thrid world i know). The issue seems to be triggered by the powering on of the PC. Whats more it will connect to the rounter as the PC show it is connected to the network but has no internet access.

Trouble shooting thus far

So far i have tried the following steps

  1. Checked the power cables on the router are securely connected.
  2. Checked the routers temperature, it is not hot.
  3. Checked the 2.4Ghz band for traffic, the band is only 20% utilised.
  4. Unplugged the router for 60 seconds and then reconnected the power.

In Power Shell i have done the following

  1. ipconfig /all (confirmed all adaptors are present and working correctly
  2. netsh winsoc reset
  3. netsh int ip reset
  4. ipconfig /release
  5. ipconfig /renew
  6. ipconfig /flushdns

In Adapter settings i have checked and confirmed the following

  1. Confirmed that 802.11 a/b/g is set as default
  2. Preferred band is set to 2.4Ghz

Really hoping someone can help. I have build over 50 PC for family and friends and myself and i have never encounteretd this issue before. Here are the build specs

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DD4 3200Mhz (4*16Gb Sticks)

Boot Drive: Crucial 1TB M.2 SSD

Motherboard: Gigabyte Arous Elite AX V2

Power Supply: Thermal Take Toughpower 750W Gold PSU

Windows Version: Windows 10 (Latest updates installed)

Thank you in Advance

regards

Trevor

First, that's a pretty old and slow router, I'm sorry for your living situation. Probably upgrading it even a little bit will help you immensely.  If you can not upgrade, have you tried a restart on it? Unplug it and replug it etc?  Is it possible to use ethernet to test if your computer bogs down the network?  Are you sure you're not running any torrent clients or Windows Updates?
