What do you mean by safely swap it? If you want to switch hard drives, just format it if you want to reuse the hard drive.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

Clone the old hdd to the new one, and if you want to pay, I recommend Acronis for cloning hdd

If it's a WD drive Acronis is free (a trial type thing but the cloning works), if it's not there are plenty of other free cloning programs.
