Tips on upgrading platform

I'm planning to switch platforms from R5 3600x and 2070 Super to R5 7600x and 4070 TI Super. Should I also get a better PSU? I have a Corsair RM650x 80+Gold, is it gonna cut it?

 

Also, is it worth it switch to AM5 for future proofing or should I go with something last gen like R7 5700x?

X570 Aorus Pro WiFi

R5 3600x

Gigabyte 2070 Super Windforce OC 3X

2x8GB 3200Mhz RAM

RM650x 80+Gold

 

I am using a 1440p monitor.

5700X3D, especially if you have a decent motherboard. It performs close to a 7700X, so there is no need to replace the motherboard and RAM.

The rest of the money can be spent on a 1440p monitor if you're using a 1080p screen.

Save the money for now, get a 5700X3D and the 4070 Ti Super.  As above, since it's basically the same as the Ryzen 7600... you won't gain anything.  

 

Spend the money for a new platform when you HAVE TO, like the Ryzen 9000 or 10,000 (WTF?) later.

 

A B650 motherboard and DDR5 RAM don't gain you anything really, so stick with what you have.

My logic is if I'm upgrading anyway, I might as well upgrade to the latest platform.

Good logic, if the platform gets you better performance.  But if you can with just a chip drop... 

 

If you want to spend $200+ more for the same performance, go for it.  Sure, you can drop in a better CPU later, but will you? 

 

I'm not just speaking to speak, I did just that.  I put a 5600X3D into my kids machine rather than move them to AM5 with my hand me down 7700X.  

 

If you want a new platform, go for it.  It;'s your cash.  But your logic is flawed.

Look at a 850W ATX 3.0 psu for that gpu due to the adapter for these RTX 40XX cards. A decent one can be had for $90.

Thanks, I just looked through a bunch of benchmarks and you're absolutely right. Do you think I'll need a PSU upgrade as well?

No.  Nvidia recommends a 700w PSU I think for that card, but that is their very conservative estimate for any system. Meaning a 14900k system even.

 

The card only pulls 285 from what i see.  The 5700x3d much less. 

 

You won't need more power and that PSU is a quality unit.

 

Just verify it has the connections, that will be the determiner.
