So SSD then? 😄

I'm waiting for other recommendations thou before executing it.

Cod itself is 200gb, but the other games don't take up much storage, so you will be fine with 500gb. A decent gen 3 SSD: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/2T848d/patriot-p300-512-gb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-p300p512gm28

its about 5 bucks cheaper.

Hello~!

I want a minor upgrade path for this year. But, I have a problem. which one should I upgrade first?

a.) A new ram, 16 (2x8GB) 3200Mhz.
- Right now, I have 4 memory stick, 2 of them is Teamgroup Elite Vulcan TUF 16gb (2x8GB) 3200MHz & the other 2 is a regular value RAM 16gb (2x8GB) 2400MHz

b.) A new SSD (500 GB, preferably NVME, on the 2nd NVME slot of my MoBo)

Specs are in my signature, thank you and stay awesome~! ❤️

CPU - Ryzen 5 5600X  GPU - AMD RX 6600 XT (8GB)   Monitors: HKC M24A9X 24" 75HZ Monitor & XP-Pen Artist 13 (2nd Gen) Display Tablet

Mobo - MSI B550M Bazooka         SSD - Samsung 970 EVO Plus (500GB)       PSU - Seasonic Core GC 650W 80+ Gold

RAM - DDR4 32GB (8GBx4) 2400MHz       HDD - WD Blue 3.5in 1TB

Your current storage situation looks good to me. Unfortunately, I don't know what games you play that may require more/faster storage. I do suggest upgrading your RAM to 4x8GB DDR4 3200MT/s, especially if the extra 2x8GB kit you're planning to get is the exact same model as theTeamgroup Elite Vulcan TUF you already have.

Don't tell me to upgrade. I would've done so if I could.

Yup, that's the plan. Same model as my current kit.

As for the SSD, I need to install Fortnite (outside boot drive), same with Genshin (this game went HUGE in storage every update -_-) and OW2.

Well, if you already have enough ram, I would recommend rebuying it for the exact same model. Dual boot only works with pairs of ram, so having all of the exact same ram will not do you much good other than working faster and maybe looking nicer. If you need to download a lot of large games, then you should get more storage, since 1 tb is kinda like the norm rn, and game files are just getting bigger. I hope this helps!

I've ran Fortnite on an HDD before. It's fairly doable, but it takes time. I primarily play singleplayer games, though, so I'm relatively unaffected by shitty loading times, even if the game does take a while.

Since OW2 and Fortnite are online Battle Royale games, I'd probably suggest getting the SSD instead, as they will benefit greatly from an NVMe. I don't know about Genshin, though. I don't play it.

Do you, by any chance, draw a lot, considering you have a display tablet? If you put in quite a few hours a week into making art, then I'd suggest the RAM.

Question is, which one should I execute first, RAM or 500gb SSD? Both are on my budget right now (35 USD)

I would recommend the storage since games are just getting bigger, and replacing already working RAM kits with slightly better RAM won't really help your in-game performance other than looking nicer and running slightly faster. Just get the 500 gb SSD, then you will have 1 tb, which is good enough for most games today.

When I play Fortnite (every 1st start), I got longer loading screen when it is in HDD, and after loading, I'm already at the edge of the map.

OW2 is on my boot SSD temporarily. I will reinstall it if I got a new SSD.

As for art and 2D animation, I have no problem with the workload, since I usually stay at 1080p 300dpi artworks/animations. No plans for 4K animation yet 😉

wasting money on RAM would be pointless.

The tiny speed increase you get wouldn't amount to anything you'd notice.

Add storage.  Also, save a few extra bucks and get a 1TB for 45-50$, don't get a 500.

He already has 500gb, if he gets another one, that's basically 1 tb. and he can get a better drive overall in terms of speed.

A decent SSD for your price range: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vPpzK8/crucial-p3-plus-500-gb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-ct500p3pssd8

If you want to replace your current SSD, then I would recommend a 1 tb drive.

Even though the other kit is lower speed than the other pair? That's my dillema between purchasing RAM or SSD.

On SSD, I might purchase PCIE 3.0 ones.

Then I'd go for the SSD. That workload is, in my opinion, relatively doable with 2400MT/s RAM. I've got 4x8GB DDR4 3000MT/s clocked at 2666MT/s because Zen+ memory controllers suck.

Don't tell me to upgrade. I would've done so if I could.

He literally said he's looking to get a 500gb drive.  buying a 500gb drive is a mistake.

It will not make a noticeable difference, maybe like 5 to 10 fps. and I seems like you are having issues with your loading times, so just get the ssd.

Yeah, additional 500GB is all I need, since some of my art files are in HDD and cloud storage.

Don't fight over it ehehehehe 😅

what you need today?  Isn't what you need tomorrow.  500GB can already be as few as 3 games installed at once.

Don't hamstring yourself over a few dollars.

No, he already has a Samsung 970 EVO Plus (500GB), so he doesn't need a full 1 tb drive. however, here is a decent 1 tb drive: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FnYmP6/kingston-nv2-1-tb-m2-2280-pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-snv2s1000g    it is a bit more though

I use a 500gb ssd, and its not causing me much issues. I still have at least 100gb free space. but he downloads more games than me, so 1 tb is good enough for most games.

Just get the 500gb ssd i recommended. it is good enough for your needs, and you are not downloading cod or anything like that, so you don't need to buy a whole tb SSD for like 50 dollars.

True, I could install some games on the boot drive, but as for the upcoming 2nd SSD, I would install those intensive games like OW2, Genshin, and among others.

500gb is still enough, unless you are downloading something like COD. You are right about the pcie gen 3 slot, so you might as well save some money and get a 3.0 pcie SSD.
