Budget (including currency): $2000

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fortnite, video editing but won't be too heavy (1440p60 at most), some AAA games (cyberpunk, a bit of warhammer Space marines II)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Budget is for pc only, going to buy ASAP, upgrading from a gaming laptop with a 2050 I think, I want more frames and some better video editing as well as being able to play games like CyberPunk 2077, I am going to play at 1440p at least 165hz (possibly 240hz if I find the right monitor)

I've seen the price for the 7800X3D and I've seen the reviews. I now know its the best gaming CPU around but it currently costs $580 while the 9900X is $440. the 9900X would probably also suit my video editing needs a bit better as I've been told it has 4 extra cores (thanks Gamers Nexus)

Would AMD or Nvidia be better for frames in fortnite? I'm pretty competitive so I want high frames there. I'm pretty set on AMD for CPU

I tried making a list, how does it look? (i'm told 6000 CL30 is the best ram so I got the one i think looked best for not much more than normal black ram)

Gamers Nexus also told and showed me how good the arctic liquid freezer III 360 argb is and techpowerup guided me to the 903 case

Though honestly good idea to go 7700x unless @fngamer2024 feel like they need more, that CPU is 100$ cheaper than 9700x.

The difference in raster performance between the 7900 XT and the RX 4070 Ti Super is 2 - 3 fps. I'd take that Nvidia card over the 7900 XT all day long.

Sorry did I not put the 7900 XTX in my build? I might've forgotten an X 😅. If the 7900 XT is in my original build I meant to put the XTX as I heard it was better value than the 4070 Ti super

Will the 14700f be better than the 9900X at gaming and productivity?

Also I heard about the new intel cpus. Are they worth waiting for?

They got XTX and the difference in price is slightly higher in this context, especially if you pay 100$ more than 4070 Ti Super's price you start to touch the budget for XTX. Which is also a better 1440p card than 4070 Ti Super even if Nvidia has better DLSS and RayTracing.

I mean perhaps, I'd use a more expensive case personally, if the whole build costs almost 2000$ why cheap out on the housing?

What aesthetic are you looking for, if any?

8 minutes ago, fngamer2024 said:

Idk I haven't built a pc before this. Probably not

The only benefits from 800 AMD chipset is the extra premium features and higher standards for things like USB, which can still be cheaper on older Chipsets that also may or may not have these features.

The PSU is good, ATX 3.0 certified, the 7700x is quite a good CPU, with 8 cores it's similar to 7800x3D except it doesn't have extra 3D cache, on the other side it clocks faster so it's slightly better than 7800x3D in certain areas.

Also for just about 100$ more, you can close this gap even further while staying on a more recent socket.

This is the 7700X vs the Intel 12 gen. It loses in gaming and productivity and I'm pretty sure it gets worse when going against the 14 gen i7 seeing how the 14 gen has more cache and a better thread scheduler than both the 12 and 13 gens.

Where's 12th gen? It's literally 14700k

you link a techpowerup, in techpowerup review, 7700x matches the relative performance of 7900x and 7950x, so I don't get where the mopping comes from still..

I stuck a locked i7 in that build. No heat issues that way.

yeah, but you're still stuck on LGA1700 socket with that decision, even if it's cheaper

That Montech RGB case comes with plenty of fans (3x140mm front intake + 1x140mm exhaust).

one of the main reasons why I went for it

The PSU is good, ATX 3.0 certified, the 7700x is quite a good CPU, with 8 cores it's similar to 7800x3D except it doesn't have extra 3D cache, on the other side it clocks faster so it's slightly better than 7800x3D in certain areas.

do I not need the extra cores in the 9900x for video editing or other sorts? it's also newer so should be better in gaming right?

Nvidia if you are video editing. AMD cards are great for pure raster in regards to gaming and that's where it begins and where it ends.

It's better but not 100$ worth better, you don't need too many cores for editing, you said yours wasn't too heavy so about 8 is enough to remain smooth

Depends what you're looking for, if it's just pure gaming performance AMD can be better, at certain price brackets the yield in AMD is much higher than Nvidia.

The only place where AMD can't compete much is all the creative stuff, this is where Nvidia simply has more support and everything, a luxury of more popular brand.

Also RayTracing is better on Nvidia, more efficient, less tanks the performance if you use it on AMD/Nvidia cards that are similar in perf Nvidia just does better with RayTracing...
