Hello,

I have come here as a last resort, I have no idea what is going on, but one of the disks in my machine is super slow and I don't know why. When accessing it, I can only describe it as lagging, it is like it needs to wake up before I can use it.

System Specifications

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • Gigabyte B550M DS3H motherboard (Bios Version F1)
  • 64GB of DDR4 ram
  • Crucial Bx500 2TB SSD firmware M6CR061
  • Crucial MX500 500GB NVME drive
  • WD Spinning drive.
  • Windows 11 64 bit 22H2

Things that I have tried

  • Turning if off and on again
  • Ensuring that the disk doesn't go to sleep
  • Leaving the computer in the bios for 6-8 hours as per the crucial docs to invoke garbage collection
  • Ensuring the firmware is up to date
  • Changing the SATA cable
  • Moving the port that the disk is plugged into on the board.
  • Ensured TRIM is enabled
  • Run the optimizer in the disk manager

I ran read writes on the disk using crystal and this was the results of that test, which to mean seems really sporadic and low.

There are also some screenshots below from storage executive

Self test seems to say the drive is good.

I don't understand the output from S.M.A.R.T enough to know what any of this means.

I have also captured a video which shows the issue

There is nothing in the event logs that point to a disk issue.

Any help, or advice would be greatly appreciated - it might just be that this disk is a pile of rubbish.

The SMART values seems to be ok.

Is it near full? Try to move some things to another drive and then run a TRIM on it.

How long has it been like this? Did this happen after something, like after a Windows update?

Is Bitlocker accidently turned on?

If you have a spare pc and the drive isn't your OS drive you can troubleshoot, place the drive into the other pc and test it there.

It is 82% full

It has been like it for a little while, noticed it more in the last week or so.

Checked that, it isn't.

I don't have another machine to try it on unfortunately.

Try to free up some space then and do a TRIM to see if that helps, just in case.

It's not that full, but it's worth a try.

Perhaps you can ask a friend for help? Bring your SSD to your friend to test and benchmark it there.

If it works great there then it's probably something else with your pc causing it, maybe the motherboard or something with Windows.
