I just bought new ram. Trident Z5 neo and i have an intel motherboard. I dont really plan on overclocking. My question is would it be worthwhile to return it and get intel ram instead?

Depending on the CPU you plan to use, you're probably better off keeping the RAM and returning the motherboard.

so i have a 12700k and an msi z690 a pro. I've had the cpu and motherboard for over a year. Im just lookin to replace my current ram.

A lot of ram has both overclocking profiles loaded (XMP & EXPO) nowadays, but if it does not and you use AMD EXPO on Intel motherboards, the result is more unpredictable.

 

I'd recommend updating your BIOS if you're running an old one, since many of the entries mention "improve memory compatibility" or similar.

 

If you're happy to run at whatever it boots at (i.e. without enabling XMP/EXPO), then there should be no problem.

 

Returning it for something with XMP and on the QVL is the 'safe' option.
