External Hard Drives Issue

Go to solution Solved by Mumintroll,

Have you checked the registry?

Fix #2 on it might be something to try since you bought another usb key to test with.

Try that and reboot.

I've recently been having this issue whenever I plug in any kind of external hard drive or usb stick into my PC where it will show up as two drives (in this case :/E and F) then will demand that I format said device whenever it is plugged in regardless of whether I've formatted it or not and if I do try to format it then it will tell me that I can not because the device is set to "Read Only".

I've checked the devices for like read only switches but none of them do, I have gone into CMD with commands to check if any of them have been set to Read Only by accident or something but none of them have and I even brought a brand new stick to see if it was just the Hard drives playing up but that too experienced the same problems.

I've looked up YouTube videos but everything that seemed it could sort the issue has been a bust, I have asked on PC discord servers for answers but no one seems to have experienced this issue so I am hoping the LTT forum can finally come to my rescue.
