I just bought an i7-13700k before i learned what was going on with these chips and i am unable to return it. I am going to be putting it into a msi z790-A max wifi mother board. I am just looking for advice whether to update to the 0x129 microcode or not and get some help on how to keep the cpu from fast degradation. i honestly have no idea what im doing in bios and this will be my first msi motherboard so extra anxious about messing with any of the undervolting etc bios settings. Any advice would help.

Since you just bought the chip, you may have one that is not affected anyways supposedly.

I've had a 13900k for a long time now, and likely have one of the affected ones? So far no issue. Also a MSI board. I updated, no issues. Have had no issues the entire time.

I would just update the BIOS, and not worry.

If the chip is brand new, then the first thing you would want to do is update the BIOS to the 7E07vM6 version with the microcode and you are good to go.

MSI has some resources to show step by step how to do a BIOS upgrade.

The chance of picking up a retail CPU with the microcode already implemented is very slim IMO, as they haven't recalled the stock already in warehouses.  Perhaps the 13900k/14900k given they are the top binned and so in the shortest supply.

Unfortunately "so far no issue" doesn't mean its unaffected, its just some CPUs will take longer to fail than others.  I've seen quite a few people still sceptical about 1.55v as its still quite high.  Intel obviously think it will last 5 years but to me that's still unacceptable as CPUs usually last decades.  You usually find after 10 years or so its the motherboards that are hard to find as they failed long before the CPUs did.
