I bought a backwards compatible PS3 but it didn't come with a controller so I have been setting it up with my PS4 controller.

Have any of you had any experience with this and with some of the buttons not working? I am able to connect the PS4 controller wired and through Bluetooth but both times the PS button will not work, every other button works as expected. It's a real pain the arse because it means I can't exit any games.

Also, another thing is when I start up any PS2 game, the game doesn't recognise the PS4 controller and complains that there is no PS2 controller plugged in and won't let me continue.

Is there a workaround or settings change for these 2 issues or should I just go out and spend the money on a first party PS3 controller?

This console isn't jailbroken btw.

That is correct, it doesn't work.

You have to use a controller that is programmed for PS3 to get that button to work.

I bought a second hand PS3 and the controller was acting weird, so decided to use my PS5 controller. The PS button does not work on PS4 and PS5 controllers for PS3, and there's no way of getting it to work. I couldn't exit a game besides turning off the console, so bought a third party controller instead.

I believe you can get an adapter from Brook or 8bitdo that you can use to make DS4, DualSense, Xbox One/Series, or other controllers work properly on a PS3 minus the pressure sensitive buttons and Sixaxis. I would recommend getting an actual DS3 for the best experience though. It sucks when you fire up a game and realize you need those missing functions.

Also the Retro Fighters Defender Bluetooth controller is a decent fully compatible PS3 controller with Sixaxis functionality. Good genuine DS3s can be a bit hard to find and kind of expensive so this is another option for full compatibility.

Went out and bought a 2nd hand PS3 controller and it works perfectly now. Looking forward to playing all the old games from my childhood 🙂
