Hello,

I have made my new pc and started gaming at first the system was perfect but now after about 2 weeks usage my pc is starting to lag while gaming, the fps drops for certain games like Elden Ring and GTAV, as of now I have been playing these games more recently. the fps drops to 0-1fps and the screen freezes ever so often sometimes constant.

When looking into task manager I can see that my gpu usage drops from 60-80% to 3-10%, as if the pc is on idle screen. the cpu also drops usage but by like 5% I have updated all drivers and softwares, as well as bios. unplugged re plugged in gpu, made sure the gpu is mounted and all cable are connected properly. I have also reinstalled windows and reinstalled all drivers. The weird part is while doing stress tests there were no issue, I also did benchmarks on 3dmark as well as GTA's benchmarks still no issue or throttles. So I am out of ideas.

The issue did occur after installing a cpu contact, but I added a sufficent amount of thermal paste and the thermals for the cpu and gpu are fine. I also downclocked my cpu and gpu to its normal state and this still occurs. So I overclocked just the cpu.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700K 3.40 GHz (OverClocked w/ MSI bios)

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 64GB (2x32GB) 3600MHz DDR4 (OC to 3800mhz)

Motherboard: MSI PRO B760-P DDR4 II

GPU: GIGABYTE - RTX 4090 24 GB GAMING OC Edition

PSU: BE QUIET! Pure Power 12 M 1000w

Monitor 1: Gigabyte M27Q X 27 Inch SS IPS QHD (2560 x 1440) 240Hz

Monitor 2: LG UltraGear 24GL600F 24" Full HD 144Hz

Windows 11 Pro

Version 23H2

you can skip to about 12 seconds if you want to see the lag/stutter I am talking about

(the video looks weird coz I had hdr on but i have turned that off, this also occured regardless with hdr on or off)

Not sure I'd be overclocking a 14700K right now, even with the newest BIOS:

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

If you installed a cpu contact frame and now it doesn't work then you probably did it wrong and all the pins aren't making even contact causing problems. Try reseating the chip and make sure the contact frame is in evenly.

would this not cause the cpu to not overheat? or even not run at all? but i will check this out and make sure

I have tried this but still the same issue, i turned off xmp also and ran the game with no over clock, but some cores still show 5ghz

quick update, my voltages for my cpu are showing like this while idle and its not OC is that the issue?

No, the issue with not using intel default settings is the voltage may go too high and fry the chip.  Its probably not related to your current issue, but something to consider in general as it could cause the CPU to completely fail.

Have you tried changing the power in NVIDIA Control Panel to performance?

yes it is on maximum preformance, and still the same issue
